Classic Spins with Mathieu Vilandre of Fuck The Facts

Once more into the breach with Fuck The Facts.

Mathiew Vilandre was kind enough to keep playing with us. Do us all a favor and stream their goodness on BANDCAMP.

So, get on that and find out about some cool albums.

1. My favorite kind of album is the concept album. The Wall is my absolute favorite. Beyond the amazing songs, it has spectacular nostalgia for me. What's your favorite one and why?

I’ve always liked Opeth so I'll go with Still Life

 2. My very first album was Live Evil by Black Sabbath. Since then I've had a strong affinity for the live record, even if they're a bit fake. KISS set the bar with Alive!. Surely, it was fake, but it's got the best concert feel of any one.

Tell me about your favorite live record?

I’m not a big fan of live albums but I’ll go with Cryptopsy’s None So Live.

My perception of metal changed forever when I heard Slit Your Guts for the first time. It’s probably not that great of a live album but 17 year old me was at that show in Montreal.

Great memories.

3. There are a great number of records I've turned to for my moods. What do you listen to when you're angry? Sad?

Angry: Old Rotten Sound makes me want to punch faces in.

Sad: Godspeed You! Black Emperor.

4. One of my friends laughs at me, routinely, for loving the Misfit Toys of albums by major bands. Lulu by Metallica and Lou Reed, Carnival of Souls by Kiss, Diabolous En Musica by Slayer, etc.

What's the strange one that you love?

We used to listen to Lulu on tour but not because we liked it, what a sad fucking album.

Everything about it is weird, It just makes me feel bad for those dudes. Out of all the people involved around such a big project, I really wonder how no one just said: “This. Is. Not. A. Good. Idea.”

But anyways, I sometimes enjoy listening to Katy Perry. I don’t know if that’s strange but yeah, that’s it.

5. It's almost fashionable to release live versions of albums or re-record the old ones. King Diamond is releasing a concert with Abigail front to back. Roger Waters has done The Wall twice. Which ones do you have in your collection?

Exhumed - Gore Metal - A Necrospective

Impaled - The Dead Still Dead Remain
