Album Review: "#3" by Archi Deep & The Monkeyshakers

#3
Archi Deep & The Monkeyshakers.

I can't stop thinking of Hot Daddy and the Monkey Puppets. You know that band Uncle Jesse had in the latter seasons of Full House?

I remember that instead of playing guitar and singing, he played drums and sang, but did it standing up...

Oh the hilarity that ensued. Those classic sitcom moments like when they had to play polka instead of rock'n'roll, and who could save the day, but the young man who was fired from the band that same day...ahh.

Thankfully, Archi Deep & The Monkeyshakers are not a cover band from some awful sitcom from my youth that I cannot get out of my brain. They're a real band from France.

The fellows have recently returned from a tour of duty in Memphis where they recorded #3, it's the follow up to their sophomore album, #2.

I wish I could go back to their debut album, #1, to just kind of remind myself, but alas, #3 is the first time I've heard of the these Les Juenes de Paris.

If I get a physical promo, like this one, I try not to know anything about the band before spinning it. I was told this group was a bit too poppy...

Frankly, I didn't hear anything remotely related to pop.

I heard a modern sounding, but still old timey rock'n'roll record.

As the Monkeyshakers say, "Rawk's not dead!"

The music bounces and sways. Luther Perkins guitar solos abound, until towards the end of this (very short) album, when out comes some beautiful psychedelia.

Between the homage to Master Hendrix, the Jim Morrison-esque screeches, and Buddy Holly guitar licks, it seems that Archi Deep and the Monkeyshakers seem to want to honor every kind of rock there has ever been.
