Vinyl Review: "Clouds Covered" by Clouds Taste Satanic

Good day.

It's been a little while since we last spoke. Perhaps you've considered that this little blog has gone the way of the dodo, but I'm still alive.

I have started a podcast under this banner.... The Glacially Musical Pordcast.

In fact, the last person to be interviewed on the show, was none other than Clouds Taste Satanic's guitarist, Steve Scavuzzo and we talked a lot about this album, but that was recorded before I'd had heard it.

So, let's talk about something that happened.

The band did a series of covers over the course of the year and released them as 7" 45's. They have long been very, very good at creating captivating packaging.

Cartoon Express with Weird Tales

Once again, we are visited by our friends from Warsaw, Weird Tales.

Did you get their new album on BANDCAMP yet?

Anyway, CARTOONS!

1. From a very early age, I gravitated towards anime. I never knew Speed Racer was anything other than just another cartoon.

What is the first one you watched that really shaped your tastes for years to come?

Kriss: I guess like most of the people I started watching “loony tunes” and other WB cartoons anyway as a kid I watched whole bunch of animation so I can't tell exactly where it starts ...

Vinyloscopy with Carsten of Giants, Dwarfs, and Black Holes

Did you get on that BANDCAMP last week?

Well, if you ignored my advice then, here's your chance to make amends. We're talking about a German prog metal band who's got tunes nearly as long as 2112 by Rush.

What do you have to lose besides and entire afternoon listening to one of them, but face it, you're probably going to have over 20,000 of them anyway.

Being as Glacially Musical is all about that sweet, sweet vinyl, I'm thrilled that Carsten was willing to tell us about his personal journey through the world of the spinning circles that are cut by needles.

Check it out!

Cartoon Express with Stefan Winroth of Malsten

You know, as an American, sometimes I forget that there's life all around the globe because we're continuously fed about how America is the best, the alpha, and the omega. Honestly?

That's art of why I do these columns. Because I want to hear about what's going on in other parts of the world.

Today we get to learn some more about Malsten from Sweden.

Let's go!

1. From a very early age, I gravitated towards anime. I never knew Speed Racer was anything other than just another cartoon.

What is the first one you watched that really shaped your tastes for years to come?

Stefan: I am of that age when cartoons were hardly shown at all apart from Disney or some crappy things occasionally. Fortunately, at the same time as I learnt how to read, Sweden was totally flooded with horror comic books and magazines.

Vinyloscopy with Weird Tales

There's literally nothing in this world better than amazing records. When you have this sort of worldview, life makes much more sense, it's easier to deal with the crippling pandemic that's keeping us all inside.

So, today, I'm talking with Weird Tales.

They've recently dropped a vinyl EP that you can totally pick up HERE.

If you're looking for a try before you buy sort of thing, check out the BANDCAMP.

1. Listening to Black Sabbath's eponymous debut the night I got it blew me away. What's the album that sounds the best on vinyl compared to digital sources?

Dima: All the stuff before 90’s. 70’s sound the best on vinyl. Doesn’t matter what genre.

Meowtal with Aaron Holt

Let's talk about Aaron Holt, a solo artist from Washington, DC. Let's all be thankful he survived the insurrection.

Wait...let's not get political, but my capitol was violently attacked....that's not politics...that's patriotism.

Anyway, he's got one of them singles out. You can peep that stuff over on the YOUTUBE.

So, let's find out about his kitty.

1. In my house, we have four cats named Wickett, Louis IX, Jiji, and Leia. How many do you have and what are they called?

We also have four pets, but we have 2 dogs and 2 cats. We have Thor, Buddy, Jadzia Dax, and Kira.

Cartoon Express with Carsten of Giants, Dwarfs, and Black Holes

Is there anyone out there who just loves long tunes?

Well, I'd be willing to bet that our new friends from Germany, Giants, Dwarfs, and Black Holes might give you a run for your money.

Their debut LP, Everwill, has a track just under fifteen minutes.

That's when you know a band is serious about whatever that song is about. Check it out on BANDCAMP.

Now, let's talk about cartoons!

1. From a very early age, I gravitated towards anime. I never knew Speed Racer was anything other than just another cartoon. What is the first one you watched that really shaped your tastes for years to come?

Sophomore Jinx with Starcrazy

When's the last time you watched Futurama?

That has nothing to do with this and I'm sorry I even brought it up, but most of my newer shows are on hiatus, so, back to Bender baby and he does love a challenge.

So, this band, Starcrazy, is glam + RUSH...

You find out at the BANDCAMP and I'll find out about their football team.

1. There is nothing more awkward than sophomore year of high school. Tell me about your circle of friends.

Well in Australia we don't have "sophomore" year, we just have Primary School and High School.

Sophomore Jinx with Nicarus

Today, we have somewhat of a first, Nicarus, is from Israel and she's going to give us a look back at how she was in high school.

That's kind of awesome.

Of course you know, I'd like you to be all about her BANDCAMP.

1. There is nothing more awkward than sophomore year of high school.

Tell me about your circle of friends.

In high school I was mainly hanging with the boys, they were fun, it was in fashion to wear black long leather  coats back then and listen to Marilyn Manson.

I had red dreadlocks and very strange outlook, you couldn't miss me, we were a bunch of weirdos and freaks compare to the rest, we used to skip class and just chill and make stupid jokes.

Cartoon Express with Mick Michaels of Corners of Sanctuary

There are times when we need those signposts that remind of us of the past. They're best when they come from someone not from the past.

So then we're staring into the future past, or the past present, or the third thing the X-Men did.

So, anyway, check out some Corners of Sanctuary. You can get on their catalog HERE.

1. From a very early age, I gravitated towards anime. I never knew Speed Racer was anything other than just another cartoon.

What is the first one you watched that really shaped your tastes for years to come?

Mick Michaels: Early on, Speed Racer was definitely one of my favorites as kid in the 70s. From there I moved to Star Blazers and Battle of the Planets.

But I had also always been a big fan of Bugs Bunny, Flintstones, Popeye, Scooby Doo and that whole crew...definitely the classics.

Saturday morning cartoons were also a favourite of mine, but what kid did not love Saturday morning cartoons...Super Friends, the whole Hanna-Barbera world.

Meowtal with Within Nostalgia

Back in December, North Bay, Ontario's favorite metal duo dropped a new EP. You can get that stuff for five looneys.

Or one Two-eny and three looneys. Or Two Twonies and one Looney.

You come up with your own permutation. But you can do it.

Scamper on over to the BANDCAMP and let's talk about cats.

1. In my house, we have four cats named Wickett, Louis IX, Jiji, and Leia.

How many do you have and what are they called?

Well, to start we have two cats and a snake. Our two cats are called Nikki and Pat and the snake is called Madusa.

Taco Tuesday with Fullminator

After I'm not sure how many years of this column, I'm finally dropping a Taco Tuesday on Taco Tuesday and on this same Tuesday? I'm eating tacos too.

It's the Taco Tuesday Trifecta!!

Tell me that TT isn't problematic now.... Anyway, we're talking to a couple of the Fullimators. Are you familiar with what they're doing? You can always check it out there on the BANDCAMP.

But for now...TACOS!

1. Everybody loves Taco Tuesday, but what's the best time to eat tacos for you and how many tacos do you put back in a standard sitting.

Reptilian Deluxe: It’s funny you should bring that up today I just made some carne asada, and prepped some tacos and I didn’t even know it was Tuesday.

Vinyloscopy with Luca "Master" Marangoni of Ainur

OH SNAP CAKES!

Here we got us one of them Record Store Day bands. You wanna tell all your friends that you heard about them here first?

If you're not ready to spend all those euros in on place, check out their new single and then see how you're feeling. You can do that on YOUTUBE.

Queen II, with no doubt at all.

Vinyloscopy by Nate Dahlquist of Arsenic Addiction

Let's start off being honest and true.

Anyone who is metal in a conservative stronghold deserves a god damned metal. Anyone who's willing to fight for non-conformity, the expression of negative emotions, and and an exploration of self, whilst living in where they seek to destroy us...

Is awesome.

So, today, we're checking in with Nate Dahlquist, the drummer of Salt Lake City, UT's Arsenic Addiction.

Listen to the bandcamp while you read about records.

Cartoon Express with Marc Bastien of Feed After Midnite

The Ottawa, ON power quintet recently dropped their first single out into the world. When's the last time you took in something new?

Here's a great time. BANDCAMP.

1. From a very early age, I gravitated towards anime. I never knew Speed Racer was anything other than just another cartoon.

What is the first one you watched that really shaped your tastes for years to come?

I think the first one I can remember is Masters of the Universe. There was just something about it that captured my young mind.

Sophomore Jinx with Alexander

When you just haven't ever had enough, you continue to listen, to enjoy, and to share what others have done.

We're hearing again from Alexander.

Check out their tunes HERE.

1. There is nothing more awkward than the sophomore year of high school. Tell me about your circle of friends.

I was known and well-liked by all of the different crowds in high school but never fit in any.  Hung out with a small group of outsiders who were cool people at the time.  I was very introverted but got on quite well socially also.

Beer Thirty with Screams of Syrens

Today, we're checking in with Screams of Syrens.

They hail from the Inland Empire, just a moment. I need to google something unrelated.

Apparently, that's from Southern California. I've never been down that way, I'm a big fan of NorCal myself.

I wonder if they have a rivalry there like we do between East and West Missouri? We're better than you Kansas City!!!

So, if you're one of those techno folks, check out some tunage of theirs on SPOTIFY

1. My personal favorite beer style is the might Double India Pale Ale. The best DIPA in the world is STLIPA by Urban Chestnut. Tell me about your favorite style.

Friday, January 22, 2021

Sophomore Jinx with The Inferno Doll

Up there in Canada, they're growing a very strong dark folk metal scene. I really don't know what else to call it.

With Lindsay Schoolcraft, Gaia Guarda, and now The Inferno Doll, these women are playing metal-ish music on Harps.

Like straight up Harps!

If you don't know, it's time you knew. Check out her great music on BANDCAMP. She just dropped a new EP in October.

But for now, let's find out what High School was like for her....

Cartoon Express with ORCumentary

Welcome again, my friends! We're sitting down with the fabled lead warrior of the death grind band ORCumentary.

We were told that he was done slaying the elves and the hobbit scum, but we're all lucky to have him back in action.

We've even got some good news, the man from Connecticut has a new album dropping February. Check it out on BANDCAMP.

Now, on with the cartoons!

1. From a very early age, I gravitated towards anime. I never knew Speed Racer was anything other than just another cartoon.

What is the first one you watched that really shaped your tastes for years to come?

The first cartoon I remember being crazy about was Garfield and Friends. I started reading the comic strip when I was very young, so I was naturally a fan of the TV show too.

Beer Thirty with Connor McCray of Vis Mystica

Lately, all anybody wants to talk to me about is damned high school. I mean, it's nobody's fault but mine, but I'm going to complain about my embarrassment of riches!

Thankfully, there's a band hailing from somewhere in the far off reaches of Pennsylvania. Former home of my grandmother and current home of my favorite mascot, GRITTY!

Here's a couple of guys who love themselves some Star Wars, so they're writing music. Finally, Nerdcore Metal.

Hey, I see you Powerglove.

Check out some Star Wars inspired metal on BANDCAMP!

1. My personal favorite beer style is the might Double India Pale Ale. The best DIPA in the world is STLIPA by Urban Chestnut. Tell me about your favorite style

Honestly, my favorite style to this day is Belgian anything, but namely Abbey beers. They have a wonderful caramel and chocolate subtlety to them that is just absolutely fantastic!

Vinyloscopy with Alexander

There is nothing Alexander doesn't want us to know. Let's check back with them.

1. Listening to Black Sabbath's eponymous debut the night I got it blew me away. What's the album that sounds the best on vinyl compared to digital sources?

--- Peter Gabriel – Passion (The Last Temptation of Christ).  No comparison, so much better!!!

2. I was laying in bed one night and couldn't sleep and I figured, it was time to start buying records. How did you come to the idea that it was time to start buying vinyl instead?

Monday, January 18, 2021

Sophomore Jinx with NoSelf

NoSelf has taken some time for us again. Check out what life was like in High School for them.

1. There is nothing more awkward than sophomore year of high school. Tell me about your circle of friends.

A: I was incredibly fortunate we had a super tight-knit group of four of us. We actually are all still really close.

2. By this time in my life, I'd given up on all extracurriculars in my school. Tell me about how you spent your afternoons.

A: Trying to figure out how to sing/be in a band, Playing wcw vs nwo: revenge on N64, listening to music with friends.

3. During this time is when I finally discovered Pink Floyd. I had a copy of The Wall on cassette. It was a grey one. That album was my escape. Let's hear about your favorite album from back then. What format was it on?

Tuesday, January 12, 2021

Fresh Fries with Alexander

We're checking back in with Alexander.

Today we're going to learn about what life is like for them in Moncton, New Brunswick.

This might be the only artist where we talk about anybody from this province in Canada.

Check out some BANDCAMP action and read on!

1. Let's not pretend.  Fast food is delicious. What is your favorite fast food joint?

-- In Canada, I would say probably Mary Browns Chicken.  In the USA, it’s so tough to pick as the variety is foolish, but In & Out Burger is pretty classic.

Monday, January 11, 2021

Sophomore Jinx with Alltar

Let's go out to Portland, Oregon. It's a great city, I presume, and they've got some kick ass music.

Today, we're checking in with Alltar before their new album drops next month.

Wanna preview their brand of doom metal? Good.

Here's some BANDCAMP for ya if you've gotta get those preorders in.

1. There is nothing more awkward than sophomore year of high school. Tell me about your circle of friends.

Sophomore year of high school is a memory stretcher for me.  But what I do know it that I had one close friend who I spent all my time with.  We would do everything together.

Friday, January 8, 2021

Vinyloscopy with Corners of Sanctuary

It's time for an introduction for some gritty fellows from the east coast city Philadelphia, PA...which is my one day home.

They're a modern heavy metal band that's stuck into the classic sound of the old school.

Even in this modern world, we're going to need some throwbacks.

I think my new friends might say that the Chief (Craig Berube) and Brayden Schenn might think so. Thank you guys for sending those awesome chaps our way here in St. Louis.

But check out their tunes HERE and let's hear about their records.

1. Listening to Black Sabbath's eponymous debut the night I got it blew me away. What's the album that sounds the best on vinyl compared to digital sources?

Thursday, January 7, 2021

Sophomore Jinx with Junior Bruce

If you're into stoner metal on the style of High On Fire, Junior Bruce is a name you really need to know.

They're totally metal and sludgy....all that fuzz.

You can get stuck into their tunes HERE.

1. There is nothing more awkward than sophomore year of high school. Tell me about your circle of friends.

Matty and Shawn were probably my best friends at the time.

Shawn was and still is an amazing artist who would get kids lunch money for drawing Iron Maiden and Metallica logos on notebooks and folders.

Matty drove a firebird and wore snakeskin boots and a Death Angel shirt. He also had this badass jacket with tassels. We started a band together that year.

Cartoon Express with Nuclear Winter

In what I consider to be one of the absolute greatest bits of irony, a one man band by the name of Nuclear Winter released an EP in the vast hellscape of a dystopian nightmare that was 2020.

Check him out HERE.

He's one of the founding members of the nascent Zimbabwean metal scene. Get his tunes and you totally pull out some ACTUALLY on some folks.

So we're talking about cartoons.

1. From a very early age, I gravitated towards anime. I never knew Speed Racer was anything other than just another cartoon. What is the first one you watched that really shaped your tastes for years to come?

Beer Thirty with Alexander

Remember our new friends in Alexander? Well now they're willing to give everybody the downlow on what kind of beers they're drinking.

Quick reminder, and I know it's hard to tell sometimes based on this silly blog, but Alexander are a musical act.

If you think they've got some good beer taste...

Check out some tunes HERE.

1. My personal favorite beer style is the might Double India Pale Ale. The best DIPA in the world is STLIPA by Urban Chestnut. Tell me about your favorite style.

Sophomore Jinx with Sinful Ways

It's a new year and a new Glacially Musical!

Nah, not even close. Here's the same ridiculous stuff I've been doing for years.

It's time to learn something about some folks hailing from Ottawa, Ontario. I'd make the suggestion that you check out their latest video. It's even right HERE!

1. There is nothing more awkward than the sophomore year of high school. Tell me about your circle of friends.

I’ve always kind of been a generally open person and back in high school it let me make friends with a bunch of different people - school from the sports teams to the computer science guys.

My main circle of friends was really diverse and was basically made from people dating each other…you could guess how that ended up.
