5 Min Origin Stories with Lakeman

One of the cool things about this particular column is that folks really come back with all sorts of different answers.

So, today we're checking back in with Lakeman.

They're letting us know what there is to know.

Check out their latest record, Progenitor, on BANDCAMP.

Now, let's get to know them.

1. Is there an event you can point to you that made you say, wow, that's the instrument I want to play?

Not like guitar or drums, but the reason why you play the model you do?

I am an opportunist, when I see something that comes into my reach, I will reach out to it. Being a multi-instrumentalist in LAKEMAN I use a vast collection of instruments and gear. Most of which I saw in pawn shops or online for a good price and thought it would be interesting to use in the project.

I am sorry to say I don't really subscribe to brand loyalty. Anything can be used if you find out your chemistry with the object in question.

Classic Spins with Victoria K

Victoria K
If you love symphonic metal, it's high time you check out these Aussie upstarts who are quite ready to take you on a new journey.

Rockshots recording artists, Victoria K, have released the debut album Essentia.

Should you desire a small taste, check out this VIDEO.

1. My favorite kind of album is the concept album. The Wall is my absolute favorite. Beyond the amazing songs, it has spectacular nostalgia for me.

What's your favorite one and why?

My favourite concept album has to be ‘Endless Forms Most Beautiful’ by Nightwish.

I love the way the story of human evolution unfolds throughout the album and musically it’s just amazing.

5 Min Origin Stories with Lycanthro's James Delbidge

Lycanthro
You tell me, is there any city in the world that's better than Ottawa, ON?

Well, I'd imagine those Montreal folks might have something to say along with the people who live in TO.

Personally, I'd like to that St. Louis is a pretty sweet place to live as well.

But I'm just filling space here, let's talk about some power metal outta the Capital of Canada.

Lycanthro.

Check them out on Facebook and in the meantime, let's get to know them a little bit better.

MEOWTAL with Becoming The Lion's Dennis Paterkiewicz

Those are some very large cats.
Look. Let's be honest. When I started this column, who in the world ever thought that metal guys were into dogs?

Remember all of those pictures with Slayer, Deicide, et al with kitty cats? Well, apparently, there are folks out there that enjoy dogs.

So, enjoy this MEOWTALthat's sprinkled withdogs.

Also, stream a track while ya read. BANDCAMP.

1. In my house, we have three cats named Wickett, Louis IX, and Randall "Pink" Floyd. How many do you have and what are they called?

I have 3 cats and 3 dogs.

5 Minute Origin Stories with Lost Legacy

If I could get personal for just a moment, there was a death in my family and it's put me off of getting anything written.

But, as life is, I have to get up and get back to being me.

So, with that said, please look for some more content again. Another pitiable excuse, I still haven't quite gotten the handle of reviewing albums whilst working from home.

I'm going to work on that, but in the meantime, we have another go with Lost Legacy.

Check it out below and make sure you check them out.

Here's their BANDCAMP.

Pink Floyd Deep Diving #3: Becoming God Sized

Please note: This deep dive is now moving past the following albums: More, Ummagumma, Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, and Obscured by Clouds.

Let's be honest...that's a pretty significant chunk of music to be moving past, but there were bits and bobs of it in the Relics portion of #2.

So, I hope you Nick Mason fans really enjoyed that. As for me, my spending money hasn't gone to acquire my least favorite era of Pink Floyd on vinyl all that much.

Today, I begin the run of albums that the conscious rock hive mind thinks of when we hear the words Pink Floyd.

It all started with an album, a departure project that caused a schism in the world. Something so powerful, the world could never eject it from its collective psyche.

Today...we revisit....

Vinyl Review: "Across The Depths of Seven Lakes" by Picture One

Across The Depths of  Seven Lakes
First off, I want to apologize to PICTURE ONE for not getting this review up sooner. There was even a brief time when I considered not even publishing it.

Real talk, guys. We had a death in the family. It's been a blank time of beers, records, and Monster Hunter for the past week now.

But... it's time to be back in it and move forward.

The Depths of  Seven Lakes was not a record I requested....so what's contained inside was a total mystery to me.

It's described as New Wave/Post Punk.

Interestingly enough, I have been preparing to review this album without knowing it. I've been spinning some Talking Heads and The Vapors lately.

My head seems primed for this.

In the meantime, should you be so inclined.... Stream bit on BANDCAMP. This is precisely the kind of vinyl review I love the most. I'm imbibing the music for the first time on vinyl, on my home stereo.

Beam Me Up Scotty With Uncle Jameson of The Fistful of Doom Show

Do you like Metal?

Do you like DOOM METAL?

What about any other kind of metal that's not that metal, but a sincere sort of metal?

Of course you do.

Check out The Fistful of Doom Show.

Now, let's talk TREK.

1. Star Trek is the world's most perfect universe. In what show (era) would you be the happiest? Why's that?

I really enjoyed the most recent movies with the young James T. Kirk and I've always casually enjoyed the original tv series.

I can remember my older brother watching that on the rare occasions that he would come and stay at my mom's. So I'll have to say the original era.

MEOWTal with Monica Strut

In the current state of the world, it's important that I continue working hard here. We may all be stuck in our houses, but it's important that we continue working together.

If you didn't know, there are also Instagram Lives on the IG page each Wednesday at 8pm EST.

But instead of talking about all of that and the stuff that's out there.

Crack open a beer and we're going to talk to marketing guru Monica Strut about her cat.

She's also all up into that metal shiz. You can see that at BANDCAMP.

1. In my house, we have three cats named Wickett, Louis IX, and Randall "Pink" Floyd. How many do you have and what are they called?

I have one cat called Cash!
