Beam Me Up Scotty with Brendan Mainville of Mountain Dust

Brendan Mainville
From the very metropolitan city of Montreal, comes a band called Mountain Dust.

It's a little hard to describe what they do, but they've got soul and throwback. Perhaps it's best to say they've got some throwback soul....if that's even a thing.

If you dig Crobot though, you're probably going to want to snort some good old fashioned Mountain Dust.

Head over to BANDCAMP for checking them out purposes.

If you're into it,  you can get those sweet metal grooves on your groove player via their STORE, and if I wasn't clear...

I mean vinyl.

In the meantime, let's talk about some Star Trek.

1. Star Trek is the world's most perfect universe. In what show (era) would you be the happiest? Why's that?

I'd have to say The Next Generation. Mostly because it was the trek of my generation. I grew up with it and it has my favorite cast.

I'd feel safer knowing orders are being given by Picard somewhere in the universe.

2. In the second season of The Next Generation, Commander William T, Riker had to prosecute Lt. Cmdr. Data on whether or not he was sentient and not property. Where do you stand on this issue and why?

My mom used to say to me, "If you have to ask yourself if you're hungry, you're not."

I think that similarly applies here; if this AI is so advanced that you have to question whether it's sentient or not, it is.

3. The only time we ever got remotely heavy music was on the bus in Star Trek IV. Why do you think they've not pursued heavy music?

I find that scene very strange. It seemed out of place to include a real-world social commentary in a futuristic setting.

I don't think Star Trek has ever pursued heavy music (or much music at all, besides goofy, colorful bottle and pipes music) because in a utopian society there wouldn't be much room for emotionally driven music to be created, and here the mainstream is taking a jab at punks as they viewed them at the time.

They could have just as easily made that scene using a disgruntled passenger yelling at another passenger or something.

4. In the Star Trek TNG Novel, worlds, universes, and centuries collided when Peter David posited that Trelane from The Squire of Gothos, was actually a member of the Q Continuum.
Do you think that's anything more than simple fanboyism?

They've created such a huge and detailed universe/history over the decades that I don't think it's too far out there to say that it is more than fanboyism.

5. What's the most metal alien in the Star Trek Multiverse?

There's so many that it can probably be broken up pretty accurately into sub-genres. That being said I think Worf shredding on a bat'leth shaped guitar would be pretty metal!
