Vinyl Review: "A Message of Love" by Nazi Gold

A Message of Love
Before we get started, let me say that because it is 2019, I had to think about this before even agreeing to listen to it due to the name.

Glacially Musical is a left leaning website and against all forms of fascism, foreign and domestic.

But this album and group came, and went before the current neo-fascist buildup in The Age of Trump. So, moving on.

Imagine if it were 2018 and you just discovered this guy named Paul McCartney and his latest record, Egypt Station.

At this point, you're just wowed by this man and his art. Naturally, it's time to start digging. Look at him, he's a bit on the aged side, so you know he's got more records than just this one. The likelihood of his having pulled a T-Model Ford is pretty low.

So, now you're digging and digging. Oh, here's all of these collaborations.

Now there's this group called Wings?

Who are these Beatles people?

Nazi Gold
If you've put your head into that space, you've kind of got an idea of where I'm at with a man named Quin Galavis. Naturally I'm not comparing the music of Galavis and Sir Paul.

Because, well, I like Galavis's music.

I came in on his Steel and Concrete record and it blew me away...still does. Since then, I've been solidly on his train. Then I discover...there's not just one, but several other periods of his career...and Nazi Gold is one of them.

It probably sounds like the rest of the group's input and chemicalalities are being denigrated, but they're not. Galavis was just my entry point.

Thor Harris and Jeremy Steen round out the group.

There might be some more ink spilled later on one of those two gents here, but let's stay on topic.

What in the world is this band??

Presently, I'm on my third spin today. Back to back to back. It's kind of like living in the Chicago Bulls' heyday.

It's definitely indie rock. There's a devil may care attitude in the music by way of not having any attitude to speak of.

The goldies aren't sneering from a place of arrogance stating they're the hottest band in the land via speech, action, or tone.

It's a cooler outlook. They're playing their music in their way.

Look, if you've not picked up on it yet, this is a band that's nearly impossible for me to describe. Their sound is nothing like anyone I've ever heard.

More than anything else..I can't stop listening to it.
