Album Review: "Overhaul" by Monsterworks

Overhaul
Well, who would have thought we would be here again so soon?

The clearly insane New Zeleanders have return with another album full of their signature brand of multiple personality disorder.

You may recall their brilliant album from earlier this year, Universe.
The funny thing is, it gets even crazier when you dig a little deeper into it. It's hard to believe the amount of material they are writing and recording.

In 2013, they released two full length albums as well and in 2012 they released two extended plays. Before they had started on their torrid pace of two releases per year, they had already released seven full length albums!

Monsterworks has music in their soul that they frankly cannot keep inside of them and it continues to pour out. They may not be working as hard as Buckethead, but how long can they keep this pace up?

Monsterworks

I would love to see a writing session for the band. There has to be some sort of way they settle disagreements ...this section should be flamenco! No it should be Napalm Death!

Guys, guys, just do a Doors styled slide riff here...BINGO!

This time around, let's talk about the little bits and pieces of other works they have taken and worked into their monster...at least a little bit.

Sabbath styled drums chug along with Robby Krieger inspired solos. The solos them are melodious and grand. It's not a delusion of grandeur to say that Monsterworks are preternaturally talented.

The vocals range from Ozzy to Cronos of Venom, to Chuck Schindler of Death, and then even more than that. Bruce Dickinson type wails permeate and usually precede the other worldly death growls.

If I were to make a Top 10 Prog Albums of 2014 list, Monsterworks would hold spots 1 and 2, but I don't know in which order. They continue to make exciting music that everyone should be listening to.
