Bookin' It with Paul of Malphas

Malphas
If you didn't know, yes, it's true, I love Philadelphia. In fact today on the internets, we were comparing the Philly train map to the St. Louis train map.

To make a long story short, when discussing cities and their light rail systems, St. Louis's trains don't even come up.

Philly though, you get on that train all the over place and get Cheese Steaks.

But today we're talking to Malphas. They're a band from that previously mentioned city. In fact, it's popping up a lot lately, but these guys? They recently released their awesome LP, The 39th Spirit on Via Nocturna.

You can shop that stuff HERE.

Bookin' It with Grehhawk's Rev Taylor

Greyhawk
We are checking back in with Seattle, Washington's Greyhawk.

They're a power metal band like you read about.

If you didn't drink a beer with them last time, here's the perfect time to catch up on their latest record, Ride Out.

Now, open up a book and let's read on!
1. I try to read at least two books per month, and mostly fail, what's your goal and reality?
Lately my goal has just been to read at least a little bit every day. When free time arises, it's so easy to automatically reach for a device and receive flashy stimulation, but I find there's a sense of groundedness and relaxing that can only come from reading a physical book.

So I've been trying to remind myself to reach for a book instead of my phone when I find myself with time on my hands. Results have been mixed. I have been reading more lately, but I've also been following a facebook page which only posts pictures of raccoons.

Bookin' It with KOSM's Erik Leonhard

KOSM
In light of recent metal happenings, you know which ones...the ones...in Florida...that if you read the song titles...you'd know they were going to happen...

It's high time we point out once again that most metal folks are just normal people who really love heavy fucking metal.

We're well adjusted and we bang our heads and sometimes run into the walls because we were dodging the cat.

So, let's check out Progressive Metal band, KOSM. Erik Leonhard was good enough to take time away from publicizing their latest record, Cosmonaut, to talk to us about the printed word.

Just in case you've all forgotten, the pen is super metal, because it's mightier than the sword. Take that, Amon Amarth!

1. I try to read at least two books per month, and mostly fail, what's your goal and reality?

I wouldn’t say I have a monthly goal, although I try to read as much as possible. Some months I end up flying through a couple books easy.

Bookin' It with Kurtis Jeffrey of Technical Damage

Technical Damage
Are you familiar with Technical Damage?

Hailing from Vancouver, British Columbia, they're a melodic death metal band. Back in September, they released their debut full length LP, The Introspect. You should check that out at BANDCAMP.

You'll always feel better checking in with any of friends from The Great White North. Instead of discussing the minutiae of their record, Kurtis Jeffrey was good enough to talk to us about what books he's been reading.

1.  I try to read at least two books per month, and mostly fail, what's your goal and reality?

A goal that I've been facing an upward battle with recently is taking care of my personal health. A demanding job, busy lifestyle and the constant mental gymnastics I use to justify "down time" prevent me from seeing certain specialists who I know would improve my general quality of life.

Bookin It With Tommy Stewart of Negative Wall/BludyGyers/ETC

Tommy Stewart
Tommy Stewart has recently been featured on the Bludy Gyres section of the Rope Enough For Two split, which you can check out HERE.

Like all of us, he's trying to read books as well. Stewart was willing to give us a little bit of time to tell us about how he's reading.

1. I try to read at least two books per month, and mostly fail, what's your goal and reality?

I read all the time daily, but rarely finish a book. I have no goal, but reality is when I read for recreation.

I do it slow to enjoy it.

2. Encyclopedia Brown and Choose Your Own Adventure books were a big part of my childhood. What did you read back in Elementary School?

Jules Verne and Charles Dickens. I was hooked on classics.

Bookin It with Matt Bacon of Dropout Media

Matt Bacon
Is there anything better in this world than BACON! If it's a Sunday morning and my family isn't complaining about the bacon smell that's permeated all three floors of our house...well then that's not really Sunday.

Today's post has nothing at all to do with Bacon, unless you're talking about Dropout Media's Matt Bacon!

If you're looking for all sorts of great information, check out the site HERE.

1. I try to read at least two books per month, and mostly fail, what's your goal and reality?

I try to read a book a week, this doesn't always happen and obviously depends on the type and size of the book. I generally get around there, or at least it averages out to that over the year.

I try to take advantage of plane flights because with no distractions I can usually knock out a book on a cross country flight. I think it's really important to set aside time to read every day and I make it a top priority.

Bookin It with Curtis Dewar

Curtis Dewar
Brand New Column!

The recurring column interviews are some of the most fun for me because we get to learn about the insides of our subjects and see more about them than just dude plays riffages!

The albums reviewed here are written, recorded, and performed by human beings who have lives and fears and what nots.

So I attempt to encourage you to get to know the human beings behind the corpse paint and Flying V guitars.

To kick off the Book Column, we're starting off with Curtis Shawn Dewar, of Dewar PR. If you want to hear about cool music or if you're a band check the man's FACEBOOK.

1. I try to read at least two books per month, and mostly fail, what's your goal and reality?

I try to do a book a week but usually average 2-3 per month including audio books. If we're talking *just* reading the book and not listening average goes way lower.
