DLP Review: "Our Riches" by Under A Full Moon

Our Riches
Do you ever go through a period where a certain kind of metal really catches you and without even realizing it...there are about 15 different Funeral Doom Metal records in the pile?

Certainly I'm not the only one right?

If you ask me, and you kind of did, we're presently talking about the most underrated subgenre in Heavy Metal.

Music falls into two major categories for me: background or foreground noise. Funeral Doom Metal is the only genre of music that allows you both options!

So there's that.

Today's subject, Under A Full Moon, is a side hustle from Evan of FVRLVRN and producer/soundsmith extraordinaire Gjøran. Both of them aren't precisely known for this kind of music. So, it's nice to see another side.

As for this record. This is the best band I've heard since UN fucked up my world. Our Riches is a bleak wasteland of morbid depravity. This record will crush your soul and possible suck out your will to live.

As it should.

LP Review: "Entropic Disillusion" by Shrine of the Serpent

Entropic Disillusion
In my younger years, the idea of making music with my high school best friend was something that was so unreal and so  mystical.

It was nearly impossible to endure those sessions of his trying to teach me songs on guitar and bass. Because he was my friend, I did it.

Years later, after I'd moved back to St. Louis and our friendship was fizzling out it finally happened. We hung out together and played music.

He was on his Stu Hamm signature bass and I on my Gremlin guitar through an amplifier that had two sounds: inaudible and broken down rusty chainsaw. There was no need for a distortion pedal in that setup. His father came downstairs and laughed at my tone...with good reason.

DLP Review: "The Incubus of Karma" by Mournful Congregation

The Incubus of Karma
Over the past few months, there's been a serious pain in my neck and shoulder.

This makes driving painful, walking with my family painful and it's been generally a pain in my ass...er neck for far too long.

In an attempt to alleviate this pain but while still continuing to cower away from doctors and their pills, it was suggested to me that massage therapy might be just thing to do the trick.

Let's start off with saying, it was an extremely painful experience. My therapist has amazingly strong fingers that were able to probe into the most sensitive areas in the upper regions and she really hurt me.

Before my second appointment, an idea occurred, instead of the foresty sounds of nature and squirrels chirping....why didn't we use something that would actually relax me?

Album Review: "The Tomb of All Things" by Un

The Tomb of All Things
Welcome to the world of the dying, Un.

Seattle, Washington's newest Funeral Doom Metal band is now releasing their debut album.

Another genre to talk about or to shake my fist angrily at the sky in defiance screaming we only need metal...but you know I'm  not going to do that.

In the past few years, there has been a fissure in the metal community. Until recently, metal has been focused on anger and rage. Dee Snider said as much when discussing why rap fans and metal fans don't have nearly the crossover they should.

But now, there's something else. Metal has found another negative emotion on which to base their songs. Sadness is just as powerful as the anger. Edgar Allen Poe knew this all too well....

Album Review: "Aeons In Tectonic Interment" by Tyranny

Aeons In Tectonic Interment
Who wants to talk about metal subgenres?

In fact I had a conversation on twitter today where my love of all things metal was questioned due to my hatred of the subgenres.

Well...

Today we're looking at the latest release by Tyranny, a Funeral Doom Metal outfit.

I suppose we can assume this album will not have any songs about living to win, never giving up, or any other fist pumping hang in there type anthems...

Tyranny are a group peopled of members from other groups at any given time. Today we're considering their sophomore effort, Aeons In Tectonic Interment, which comes a full ten years after their first release.
