Album Review: "Crimen Sonoro" by Troker

Crimen Sonoro
Every now and again I receive an album of music that I'm at a loss for words to describe, but we'll get to that in a bit.

Hailing from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, Troker has been doing this kind of music for some time.

When I think of Guadalajara, I think of Chivas...but that's another story.

The group has been around for over ten years. They started as a bar band in their hometown.

They've undergone many changes over the years. From a rock band, to a jazz band, to whatever in the world they are now. If you can figure it out for me I'd be eternally grateful... If you think that music has become stale and predictable...read on.

Troker
It is more than obvious that this group is clearly insane.

When I hear this music, I cannot begin to understand  how these songs were written much less even conceived.

Have you ever heard a phone's touch tones being used as a musical instrument?

It's even in key!

There is no electric guitar in this band, but the horns take their place.

Palm muted guitar riffs are played on trumpets, saxophones, etc and it creates a magical effect.

Living somewhere leaves a trace. Troker's horns have a mariachi feel. How could they not? There's also a mambo feel and it's just so out there.

There are samples from time to time that are then scratched into repeats. I do not believe that there is anything that they can do which was left on the cutting room floor.

The clearly insane have made a brilliant record. Put on this album and allow it to take you somewhere you've never been.

I can guarantee that you have never heard an album like this.

  1. Sounds right up my alley. Plus, one of my favorite Mexican dinners at El Indio is the Jalisco Special, so I'll have to give this a listen ;)
