Album Review: "Destroy The Dwarves!" by ORCumentary

Destroy The Dwarves
ORCumentary. Ok we can go with this.

When I hear the word orc, immediately, my mind goes to Dungeons & Dragons.

Apparently there people who'll tell you that orc came from Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit.

Well...I do not know if this is true.

Whereas I've never cracked open the books, I have watched the movies hundreds of times it seems like. My wife and I made a deal...for each rings movie, we'd watch a samurai movie...

Still waiting.....

But anyway. Today's album review is for Orc Adams's new album. This album is all about orcs, elves, dwarves, men, and how to kill them or maim them I think. It's hard to tell...

Where Orc Adams's picture should go.
Being as I don't have a photo of the man himself, I'm going to assume  he's going incognito and trolling (get it?) all of us.

After listening to the few songs, I quickly realized that this record is anything but singular. I think I have never heard an album that's so all over the place.

That's a staggering thought when you consider it's one person writing it all!

The vocals switch around from Tampa Bay Death Metal to King Diamond shrieks to black metal whatever it's called.

Never standing still and never allowing the listener to get comfortable with them.

The guitars...oh that tone. Classic, vintage, dated, awesome death metal tone. The guitars, and the mixing sound like what death metal did before anybody had ever heard of it. The production is just south of the Seven Churches album.

It's a great metaphor for orcs though.

It's hard to pinpoint the influences of ORCumentary. The only thing I can pick out is that there's a definite nod to Baby Metal's earlier works, いいね! (Iine!) and ド・キ・ド・キ☆モーニング (Doki Doki Morning). This is just in the keyboards though.

Music that sounds like nothing else is always the most fun and ORCumentary will surprise even the most jaded metalhead.
