7" Vinyl Review: "Terasoma" by Avantist

terrace
Let's start off with some housekeeping.

This is the record that's been waiting, fairly impatiently for time in the sun in the Glacially Musical vinyl reviews.

Avantist and the follow up came to me in the same package. I made it a point to wait instead of thumping out two reviews by same band on successive weeks.

So, Terasoma gets to be a part of Glacially Musical's first ever Vinyl Week.

Both of the releases hit the streets this year and the band, continues to confuse me.

Our friends from Chicago have a color palette the size of Lake Michigan.

In fact, it's bigger than Wrigleyville and other things in Chicago put together. (Sorry guys, though this St. Louisan loves your city and your Metra Rail service, it's not like I'm spending oceans of time up there.)

OK, they have more colors than a Giordanno's pizza has cheese?

That's what gives them their signature flair. Their debut was something I had to listen to at least three times to really get a handle on what I was hearing and this EP is no different, except, there does seem to be some latent anger that's pushing towards the surface.

In fact, the first song...UVB_76, do I dare to say that it's metal?

During _violence they start off different, but they head back to shores of metal. The last track.... this_could_be_it is more of what I'm used to from their debut LP, but it's still different.

No Trend Records and Avantist have created a first class package for this EP as well. There's an old school ad insert letting you know what other sweet records No Trend has released. There's also a full color insert with the lyrics printed.

What Terasoma does for me...well, it makes me want more and more. If this band has it in them to release a full length LP and a 3 song EP in the same year...well same six months really...they've got a lot of music stored up in their souls.

More than just having loads of songs, they have the ability to play in a plethora of styles that will always keep us guessing.

I look forward to their next release with great anticipation.
