The Undivided Wholeness of All Things

It's not been that long since I told you that I had to start making some changes to what music is reviewed around here.

So, let's talk about the subgenre "Brutal Death Metal."

There was an epic twitter meltdown I caused a few months ago because I said that brutal death metal and technical death metal are basically the same thing.

By basically, I mean 88 to 93% the same and by epic meltdown I mean a polite disagreement between myself and one other gent.

So, if we're being completely honest and putting all of our card on the table, I don't really like Brutal Death Metal. To my ears, it typically sounds like down tuned grindcore with a whole lot less to say, because who knows what in the world they're saying anyway.

Let's talk about something silly today.

On Saturday at my daughter's hockey practice, the team was giving out car decals so the parents can show their pride in their daughters for being on a hockey team.

Now, there's also been a sticker for her school in my car that I paid for back in, well, August.

So, there was a sticker deficit going on. There was already a single sticker on my Toyota Prius.

My Prius, has a Death Metal sticker on it. One that said death metal was chosen over a band's sticker, because, I wanted the people to see my duality. Like The Joker said in Full Metal Jacket. Newer readers will probably notice that not much death metal has been hitting around here though.....

My favorite comedian, Mitch Hedberg spoke those lines, though not quite as PG as that, on his posthumous album Do You Believe In Gosh?

There's a man that left us too soon. There were still a great many things that Hedberg had yet to teach us.

And you know, what if Spiderman shot hammocks instead of spider webs? Let's move on a bit toward some brutal death metal though.

In Metal Evolution David Vincent of Morbid Angel described death metal as being a lot of notes, a lot of abrasion, and more. Host, Sam Dunn, talked about how extreme metal, to most people sounds just like noise. Both he and Vincent had a very clear idea why Death Metal wasn't as popular as say, Power Metal, but what about metal that's heavier than death metal?
