Being a fan of a band is a lot like being their parent.

We watch the bands grow up. Look at bands like Metallica, Iron Maiden, etc... Those bands' first records are nothing at all like what they became in the future.

There's growth and change in every band, sorry AC/DC.

It can be rare, especially in this day and age, to catch on with a band on their debut album. This is the reason why debut records are mentioned so many times when they're reviewed by me.

It's important to know the growth potential in my opinion. Twingiant, they ended up in my universe when they were doing press for their second album, Devil Down. 

Top Ten of 2016: Nikos Mixas of Twingiant

For some of us 2016 has been a letdown of a year. Not only did we see a handful of rock icons pass (Even though Lemmy passed in 2015, it was really the start of this grisly trend…)

We’ve seen an election year turned up onto its head AND…it seems like everywhere you look, something horrible has happened. 

 It makes you miss 2015 in some respects. I feel the same way with regards to the heavy music that was released in 2016, there are some winners but in my opinion, 2015 was a far better year for releases. 

Without further ado, here are my top ten albums of 2016! 

Split EP Review: "Split" by Twingiant and Into The Storm

My faithful twitter followers will know about my great love of tea.

In fact, I just poured some hot water out of my work electric kettle in order to brew up a strong cup of Japanese Green Tea that I recently purchased at the local Asian grocery store.

Picking out new tea is a lot like picking out music in 2016. Go to Bandcamp, Amazon, iTunes, or any place folks pick up music and it's nearly impossible to weed this all down.

Of course there are a couple good ways choosing tea, you could always ask the advice of someone who's had all of those teas. It's also a good idea to pick tea that's made in the same style as one you like. This past trip, I was trying to get a box of Takaokaya green tea that I got in Chicago, but Jay's didn't have it. So I got Tian Hu Shan instead...

It's another Japense green tea. 

But there's also that third option. They also make variety packs of tea. Ahmad Teas has a great 20 pack of afternoon and breakfast teas that I usually grab when I've got go out of town.

For the past forever it would appear....

There has been this idea that decades of metal progression has been wrong and that something was lost in the translation from Black Sabbath's unholy teachings.

Most metal bands today bear no resemblance to them.

Though he is still a huge fan, I can hear nothing of Tony Iommi in James Hetfield's playing.

If you picture Black Sabbath in your mind, likely you will see the four of them, dressed in all black, wearing giant metal crosses, but that is their revisionist history of themselves.

Black Sabbath started out as hippies. They were as much acid rock as Jimi Hendrix, but so many bands took off, in their preconceived footsteps. Nowadays though, we have bands that have hit the reset button and brought back the wah wah into heavy metal.

So, I told you all of that so I can introduce you to Twingiant's Nikos Mixas.

Album Review: "Devil Down" by Twingiant

Today's review subject hails from the desert city of Phoenix, AZ.

Can you think of any other bands from that area? I believe that Godhunter is from Tuscon, AZ...but I also have no idea how far apart these cities are and the aforementioned Godhunter has very little in common from Twingiant.

The similarities end at playing high gain guitars and metal.

Formed in 2010, their idea was to play loud as all get out rock'n'roll, but in today's society, grooving rock music gets classified under the Stoner Metal category...

Our good friends Crobot can attest to that I think.

Twingiant has been fairly active in their short time in existence. Today we're looking at their sophomore LP, Devil Down, but aside from their debut, they also have an EP to their credit and will be releasing a Split EP next year and going on tour.
