There's always a part of me that gets really excited thinking about a brand new band, a brand new sound. Hearing the first strains of music, trying to find their influences, and gauging their career trajectory.

It's very exciting.

Apparatus hails from the very metal country of Denmark and their first album is finally being released, as they put it, into the physical realm.

Performing in strange masks they play a brand of blackened death metal that ventures into art territory. Let's delve into this album and see what it's all about.

Today we check in on the Czech Republic and their native sons, Heaving Earth.

They're from the historic city of Prague, and I'd be surprised if many Americans can name another area of Czech Republic, but I'll tell you that I enjoy a good Czech Pilsner any day of the week.

In fact I recently tried Czechvar finally...but Czech Lagers are hardly metal....I think metal beers have to be like Double IPAs or something...beer that hurts to drink...

Anyway.

Heaving Earth has been at the death metal game for a number of years now and Denouncing The Holy Throne is their second full length album, but they've released an extended play and been part of a split since releasing their debut album, Diabolic Prophecies in 2010.

Album Review: "The Gates of Hell" by Day of Doom

The Gates of Hell

From Long Island, New York comes this brutal death metal band, Day of Doom.

This band has been around since 2000 chugging away in obscurity. They have recorded several demos that have not been seen by the wider world and they have also recorded two full length albums.

Both of those albums were self produced and self released. This is the first album that has been released by a label. The Czech metal label, Lavadome Productions, has signed them up and released their third album.

There is always an adjustment when a band changes from completely independent to being on a label, but did this calm down any of the extreme metal that was on their first few records or they still terribly evil and metal?
