Vinyloscopy with Lakeman

Lakeman checks back in with Glacially Musical. There's something about those Canadian underground bands that I totally dig.

Maybe it's just that I love Canada and want to become a Canadian.

Either way, stream them on BANDCAMP and read on!

1. Listening to Black Sabbath's eponymous debut the night I got it blew me away. What's the album that sounds the best on vinyl compared to digital sources?

I have a theory that the best way to listen to something is on the medium it was mixed for. So all those classic rock albums are kind of meant to be heard on vinyl.

Whereas Korn or Deftones might be suited to listen to on a shitty Walmart boom box on a cd. Alexisonfire might be meant to listen to in mp3 format with earbuds on public transit.

The band will usually cater to the format they suspect they will release it on, this is why compression was becoming such a problem in modern music. So with that in mind thank gawd vinyl is coming back.

5 Min Origin Stories with Lakeman

One of the cool things about this particular column is that folks really come back with all sorts of different answers.

So, today we're checking back in with Lakeman.

They're letting us know what there is to know.

Check out their latest record, Progenitor, on BANDCAMP.

Now, let's get to know them.

1. Is there an event you can point to you that made you say, wow, that's the instrument I want to play?

Not like guitar or drums, but the reason why you play the model you do?

I am an opportunist, when I see something that comes into my reach, I will reach out to it. Being a multi-instrumentalist in LAKEMAN I use a vast collection of instruments and gear. Most of which I saw in pawn shops or online for a good price and thought it would be interesting to use in the project.

I am sorry to say I don't really subscribe to brand loyalty. Anything can be used if you find out your chemistry with the object in question.

Classic Spins with Lakeman

Today, Lakeman is going on the Classic Spins train.

These fellows are making a big name for themselves in the outer rim territories of British Columbia.

That's what they call Kelowna right? I'm probably confusing that with Star Wars as the pod races in St. Louis were canceled last night.

Either way, their latest progged out EP was released on Jan 10th.

You can check it out on BANDCAMP and own it for the less than five looneys. In fact, two twonies and one looney, and you'll get change back.

Anyway, enough of me.
1. My favorite kind of album is the concept album. The Wall is my absolute favorite. Beyond the amazing songs, it has spectacular nostalgia for me. What's your favorite one and why?
