Review Round Up 3/20/20

In these scary times, it's important to remember that death metal is a cure all. (NOTE: This is not medical advice meant to cure, diagnose, or treat any disease or virus.)

I put this one on thinking it would be a nice meat and potatoes album of Brutal Death Metal. That's what Devangelic dropped on my head last time.

They are still every bit of a thunder and lightning band, but this record is much better than the last go round we had together.

There are touches here that didn't seem to exist last time, or they weren't pushed up far enough to really register into my psyche. Better solos, more melodic guitars. When a good band gets better, there's nothing more to ask for.

LP Review: "Darkness..." by Mordor

Darknes...

In the darkest depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair...

It's been almost fifty years since Robert Plant put that line on wax in the classic track, Ramble On.

In 1986, that was the first time I'd ever heard anyone say Mordor that I could recall. The Rings cartoon movie...never saw the whole thing and never got past Frodo talking about his missing finger

Yes years later, those Peter Jackson movies....they're on my shelf on blu-ray, but Randall Graves was right.

He was right.

Today's Mordor isn't a Led Zeppelin clone, nor do they seem to be writing songs about The Lord of the Rings. It's just that their name made me think of other things and past experiences that make me smile.

LP Review: "Księżyc milczy luty" by Furia

Your friend and humble narrator, has been married for nearly seven years at the time of this writing. (Just slightly over a month later, on Repeal Day, it'll have been seven years.)

But in the before time, I found myself single, my era of online dating began.

What else is there to do after having been ensconced in a 12 year plus relationship. It's not like I could begin dating friends, a new circle had to be drawn.

If anyone is curious, yes, we are presently living in domestic bliss in the now time and the rest of this is about the before time.

Online dating is essentially setting yourself up on as many blind dates as is humanly possible. There is very little to go on aside from a photo and a few words of whatever.

Well, what's never visible or enumerated in the profile is the author's crazy, though I did try to get a goodly chunk of mine in there. It's only after digging a little deeper do we see what lurks.

Anxiety Never Descending

When I was very young, I was watching an episode of Solid Gold or Star Search, and the host was talking about a talented young artist up next.

I was confused.

To me, artists drew pictures, painted, sculpted, etc and then I saw it was a singer. So, I rightly, assumed they painted on the side.

I didn't know then that music is an art form. It's kind of funny, music is the only art where saying it's artistic is a compliment.

Kind of like how in American Football it's the only place were calling an athlete athletic is a compliment!

I suppose it has something to do with how many more people make a living off of music, or at least used to. Music, like all art forms, is a method of expression and Poland's Kult Mogil has a lot to express.
