LP Review: "The Heresiarch" by Nupraptor

The Heresiarch
Well, this is frustrating.

There was a movie that I saw years ago in the 80's, back when everything was plastic and ridiculous.

It was about a gent who was the prototypical 98lb weakling that we all read about in comic books.

He entered into a pact with, naturally, the Devil. Oh wait, googling has finally surfaced the name of this terrible flick, Hunk.

Among other amazing things it featured a wannabe Dom Deluise and a wanna be Elvira.

Well, the point is, the young is transformed from his normal self into an alpha male. The devil's emissary explains to him piece by piece where his outer shell came from.

At this point, it's got to be very well established that this guy right here, the one who's typing and not the one pictured to the right of the clickety clacks, is a big, big fan of doom, stoner, sludge, etc metal.

Henceforth to be simply referred to as Doom Metal to keep things simple.

There's a slight problem with it and now it's time to incite the torches and pitchforks...

Doom Metal lacks kick ass guitar solos. Other forms of metal (death, thrash, heavy) has amazing kick ass guitar solos.

So, what would happen if we took those burning melody breaks and added them into the slow, plodding arpeggios of doom metal?

Well, it turns out that you get a pretty damned kick ass album. The Dooms, they can get monotonous unless you're in Black Sabbath, and those solos do quite a bit to liven up the proceedings.

To get some housecleaning out of the way, at the end, Nupraptor is the first solo project from Matt St. Ours. You may know him from his day job, White Hornet.

Here he's gone full Roger Waters and crafted a progressive, rocking doom metal disc for the ages.
