7" Vinyl Review: "Pyramid of Skull EP" by Skeleton

Pyramid of Skulls
It's been a long time since the days of checking out the Seven Inches at the underground record store.

In fact, that's never really been a part of my life, but I am reading the Beastie Boys book...and they spend loads of time talking about that from way back when in their hometown of New York City.

Now, the death metal EPs....

Those I kind of remember, but that was right before CDs exploded and killed everything that was good an holy in the world..at least in terms of physical music.

Today, we consider a 7" of interminable length. This thing, if you take it front to back, is about a solid five minutes of music.

Yes....five minutes.

When I looked at the back of the record itself, there were five tracks, but on the digital release, these two are simply considered one. We'll let that go for now.

Upon said perusal, a common recurring theme of comedic value came to the surface of this clearly black lake....

Is this a 33 or a 45?

That's when I looked at the little black donut to figure this out. Super Secret Records isn't a high frills packaging style of label. They're more like Alive/Natural Sound with download cards included, but this one....this one sets a different bar.

Maybe it's some sort of odd punk rock aesthetic that's beyond the simple metal sensibilities of yours truly, but both sides of the disc were blank. Now, this was the time to put my keen and penetrating mind to the task and unlike Professor Snape, I came to the correct conclusion!

One only had to count the tracks. Side A has 3 and Side B has 2. Take that, Kazhak Punk Rockers!

So....What is this thing anyway?

Record label speak would have you believe that this band is all sorts of everything extreme metal, save Death.

That's what's so interesting about this....now, I think what they are is a little overblown, but this five minute EP is a metaphor for something.

It starts off straight punk rock, but by the end...but minute five....they're now playing avant garde black metal.

They never fall off a cliff to move from genre to genre, but they boil several all together and from that ooze they rebirth themselves.

There can be no other way.

Check it out if you can...Here's the link to check them out....
