Bookin' It with Static Tension's Brian

Static Tension
How long has it been since Glacially Musical checked in on our good friends, Static Tension?

They're an indie band in the eastern part of the American Midwest. Hey, I'm sorry, but if you don't live west of the Mississippi River, you're somewhere else that's not precisely the Midwest. Due to that fact, it'll be deemed necessary by Glacially Musical management, namely me, to add qualifiers to your midwestern bonafides.

Well, instead of my blah blah blahing about flyover country, what have they been up to in the meantime?

Oh, well lookee lookee Senator, you can pre-order their latest album, Ashes To Animation, via the greatest site in the world, BANDCAMP.

While you're there, check out some of their earlier releases too.

1. I try to read at least two books per month, and mostly fail, what's your goal and reality?

I don't like to set timed goals on reading. I pick a single book at a time, or a series that I want to finish, and then go at it.

I get to feel that sense of accomplishment for getting through it but don't worry about it if it takes me a while.

 2. Encyclopedia Brown and Choose Your Own Adventure books were a big part of my childhood. What did you read back in Elementary School?

When I was younger I was insatiable. I read a lot of scholastic stuff like Goosebumps and Animorphs, but my grandmother used to sign me up for a lot of educational stuff like Time Life that I can't find on google for the life of me now.

It's books like that that made me want to focus on learning.

3. It's no secret that I think Harry Potter is an amazing saga, but it wasn't until after the movie for Chamber of Secrets was released that I began reading the books. What was the big thing you were late on?

I guess the biggest thing I was late on was Lord of the Rings.

I only heard about it and got around to reading it when the movies came out. It's a shame because I would have definitely eaten it up if I had heard about it earlier.

4. My local library is amazing and I'm there pretty frequently. What do you like about your library?
I live out in the boonies so my local library is unimpressive, to be kind about it. I never bother going and prefer to buy books outright to put in my shelves.

When I was in high school I lived in Middletown, OH and the library there was always my escape from my home life.

I'd typically skip going home after school and head straight for the library to read comics or books and get on the internet.

5. Comic Books. Which ones are you reading?

I don't actively read comics, I tend to wait for them to finish runs and then binge them later. I've always been a fan of manga, but for western comics I tend to keep my eye on Batman, X-Men and Spiderman.

6. What author can you just read again and again?

My favorite author is Terry Pratchett. I've read through all of his books a couple times now. The fantasy universe with satire based on modern issues is something I'm drawn to.

Something about the way Terry was able to put a mirror to society while still keeping an air of levity always drew me in.
