Hometown Tales with Jupiterian

Do you remember the great days of June when we were sure that all of this lockdown nonsense was going to be over and we'd all be out there hugging and kissing everybody after 2 months of horrific house arrest?

Well, Jupiterian (Canada) does. In fact, that's when they dropped their latest album via BANDCAMP. Let's be honest, I'm not certain if naming the thing bereavement was kismet or karma.

Either way, I wanna ya know...listen to metal, drink beer, and get the hell out of my house.

In the meantime, find out about where they live!

1. St. Louis City is my hometown. I've lived here for most of my life in and around the city. Where are you from?

We (Jupiter Hollow - Kenny & Grant) are from Barrie, Ontario, Canada.

2. We have three things that don't really exist anywhere else: the slinger, the gooey butter cake, and toasted ravioli. Tell me about your hometown's delicacy.

The Smokes Poutine, the Tim Hortons, real maple syrup, Pizza Pie.

3. In St. Louis, though there have been others. Our biggest hometown team is the St. Louis Cardinals (formerly the St. Louis Perfectos, nee: the St. Louis Browns, not the AL team that moved to Baltimore.)

There is nowhere you can go to escape it. I'm a hockey fan, not a baseball fan, so it's a bit weird to me. Tell me about your hometown's big team.

Our hometown Barrie team is the Barrie Colts, a hockey team. They're great!

4. St. Louis isn't really known for any one type of music scene. The biggest acts I can think of to get out of here alive were Gravity Kills, Nelly and the St. Lunatics, and Sheryl Crow. There's always been a vibrant concert scene though.

\What about where you are?

In Barrie, the music scene is pretty diverse. With that being said, definitely a decent metal and punk scene. We used to have 1 venue here for local and international artists called The Foxx but it's now unfortunately closed due to COVID.

Fortunately, there's another venue here called the Mavericks which we'll be performing at once the world is back to normal.

5. 20 years ago, St. Louis had about 300 murders each year, floods, and all sorts of other fun things. You might have heard about us being named the Murder Capital of the USA. Nowadays, a lot here is 150. But there are lots of parts of the city that are returning to former glory. On the whole, St. Louis is a better place to live today than before. Is there anything like that where you're from?

Barrie has a lot of addicts, and I'm sure there is some crime... but nothing like murders. If there are there's not many. Just north of Barrie in Toronto, that would be a different story.

6. Are you still there?

We sure are!
