Road Warriors with Insurrection

Insurrection's a strikingly awesome metal band from Gatineau, PQ. Feel free to check out all about their home town HERE.

Last year they released an absolute cracker of a death metal record, Insurrection, and you can pick that up at Big Cartel.

Like any band out there worth their Poutine, Insurrection likes to get in the van and hit the road for awhile.

Let's find out what it's like to be there with them.

1. What's the right length for a tour?

The longer the better! It’s more about finding the right shows then just filling dates though but if you can line up decent gigs then go for it!

2. I've heard some great stories about strange ways of eating on the road. What's your trick to keeping your belly full while out there?

We always make groceries for the van and we buy cheap and eat that until we just can’t anymore..

With the occasional meal provided by promoters and a few restaurants here and there it’s pretty decent. A lot of sandwiches were made on the road!

3. Tell me about the best club you've played? The worst? Names can be left out, or in...whichever.

We've been pretty lucky with good venues like Foufounes Electriques and Club Soda in Montreal, Le Magog and Grenada Theater in Sherbrooke, Rockpile in Toronto, Mavericks in Ottawa, Cogeco Amphitheater in Trois-Rivières, Distortion in Calgary, Cloud 9 in Regina, I could go all night.

As for bad venues... well it’s hard to say because sometimes the venue seems shitty but we end up having an amazing show there so it makes it awesome in the end... Don't get me wrong though.

There are bad venues everywhere!

4. Whenever I get behind the wheel of a car for a long drive, I always play a Mitch Hedberg comedy album. What's your routine?

It changes a lot from a road trip to another but when we listen to music it turns to a very loud concert in the van. We’re pretty big on singing to Bon Jovi.

It's My Life comes around a lot!

5. How do you settle band fights while in the backseat of the van?

We're pretty lucky for that. We don't really fight in the van. In fact we rarely fight at all. If we did though we'd have to settle it like I assume most people would, with a fight to the death.

6. Tell us about the best response you've gotten outside of your home town.

We've been very lucky with a good response throughout the whole country! Whether it’s Quebec, Ontario, the Maritimes, prairies, we always manage to get people that are really into what we do and that show it at venues.

Props to all those awesome people!

7. Have you ever played in St. Louis?

Unfortunately no we haven't.
