News: Ablaze My Sorrow Signs with Black Lion Records

Black Lion Records is pleased to welcome Swedish melo-death act Ablaze My Sorrow into the tribe.

Founded back in 1993, Ablaze My Sorrow has played an immense part in the underground Swedish death metal scene with four albums in their back catalog.

The band is currently in the studio recording their upcoming yet-to-be-titled fifth album, set for release later this year. The upcoming record marks the beginning of tenure for Ablaze My Sorrow's new frontman Jonas Udd.

Black Lion comments, "We are extremely happy about the partnership. I've been a fan of Ablaze My Sorrow since the band's early days, so getting the chance to, now, be a part of the trip is something truly exciting.

LP Review: "Wrath of the Wilds" by Wormlight

Wrath of the Wilds
When considering metal convention and cliche, is there any subgenre that's so indebted to these things than black metal?

Black Metal is full of interesting tropes that are brought out again and again by new and different acts trying to recapture the magic of what once was.

Even the facepaint is oft used. The same faces will appear in different bands. Honestly, I don't know if that's an homage or a heist.

Either way.

It's as if there's this straight and narrow path that delineates black metal from all other forms of music. Should it walk the edge and make a misstep that drops a single, fur covered boot into the snow....is it still black metal?

DLP Review: "Extinct" by Frowning

Extinct
When I was coming of age, Black Metal was a very different thing.

Why, back in those heady days, we didn't even have to add the qualifier Norwegian to the title. It was just assumed that all black metal was from the fjords.

Naturally, we're talking about the latter half of the 90's. Until that point, even listening to the extreme metal shows in my hometown both Monday Night Metal on KSHE 95 and The Mosh on WLCA, I never heard a single solitary scrap of Black Metal.

The latter of the two shows was pretty on point with extreme metal in those days, so I'm going to presume that no one else here really knew about it either. Please tell me in the comments how wrong I am should you so wish.

This isolationism created a monolithic block and the beginnings of check your box metal were growing there, as well as in Tampa, FL.
