Bookin' It with Tommy Concrete

Tommy Concrete
How many times have you thought about music from Scotland?

Well, being a pretend Scotsman, i.e. my family goes back to the Highlands, it's really  not all that often.

Perhaps it's times to think about my ancestral homeland a bit more often. In that method, let's talk about Edinburgh's own, Tommy Concrete.

In October he released his latest record, Unrelaxed, and you can preview or puchase that on digital or CD via BANDCAMP.

So, let's get down to business and talk to him about books.

1. I try to read at least two books per month, and mostly fail, what's your goal and reality?

Two a year is my goal, but to be honest I struggle to manage one. Reading is very important to me, but it is also very difficult. I have limited visual imagination, in the sense that I don't 'see' anything in my mind when I read.

LP Review: "Speak Not of the Laudanum Quandry" by Ashenspire

Speak Not of the Laudanum Quandry
My wife made the request that I read three pages of Harry Potter and the Sorcer's Stone while my daughter was getting ready to get into bed.

Story time has long been a part of our family life and my daughter requests all of the stories she can get. It's also quite common for her to be reading in the backseat of the car, on the couch in the upstairs lounge, and anywhere else she can get her hands on a book.

It would have been easy to sit down on her little bed and start reading the words as they're written on the pages.

Instead, dimension was added. Voices were created. As I stood while reading this book to my wife and daughter, I performed it. The look on their faces was quite enough to make me keep reading, but it's important to always do a little bit more when you're telling a story if you can.

Album Review: "Taser Revelations" by Adam Stafford

Taser Revelations
Normally, this is the part of my reviews where I wax nostalgic about the vague idea that an album inspires in me while I'm listening to it in order to humanize my review and give my readers an idea of what this particular album means to me.

This time is a little bit different and I hope that Adam Stafford can forgive me.

This is the 500th post on Glacially Musical.

This little blog started officially on Friday August 3, 2012.

It's a labor of love and there have been many changes in the three plus years of its existence. Since about 2004, I've always had some sort of writing project, but none of them have been as long running, prolific, or as successful as this one.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for reading these pages, not for me, but for the bands herein that you haven't heard of yet. This blog is me telling all of my friends, and more, about these really cool bands. It's my tribute to the world of music.

Album Review: "Zealots" by The Deadline Shakes

Zealots
Sometimes music comes to me and I just find myself thinking, you know I really need to check this out.

Today it's The Deadline Shakes.

They're from my family's ancestral home of Scotland. Glasgow to be precise.

As I'm oft happy to do, I'm introducing them partly because they are a brand new band on the cusp of releasing their first album. Zealots.

I have them on my list of bands to check out. I wrote their name down about a week and a half ago, and I honestly cannot remember why I chose them, just did. As I couldn't remember why I chose this particular album for review, I was not prepared for what came next....

Album Review: "Earth Shaker" by Ramage Inc

Earth Shaker
Let's talk about Scotland.

I think most of us here in the United States do not think much about the small nation in the north of the United Kingdom, but being a Cameron, I do.

Though I do not enjoy the Scottish Premier League at all...sorry ancestors, but if it matters I do have my family's coat of arms tattooed onto me.

Ramage Inc is a progressive metal band from Edingburgh, Scotland.

They have been doing this music thing for awhile and their latest album, Earth Shaker, is due to be released in early September.

You should honestly keep reading because, how many Scottish bands can you name?
