Video: "Swallow The Dust" by Spitfish

Let's talk about Gdansk, Poland. What do you know about this coastal city? I know that David Gilmour recorded a live album there. Though, could've been called Pink Floyd as there were two Floydians.

Naturally, we all know that Poland is pretty metal. So, let's talk for a bit about Gdansk's native sons, Spitfish.

They're a rock/metal hybrid thing that's almost doom metal. You can listen to them below or check out their album, Penny Dreadful, on SPOTIFY. Not surprisingly, you can also connect with them on FACEBOOK.

XLP Review: "Sinister" by Cultes Des Ghoules

Sinister
It's easy to hold a band's previous success against them because it's hard to look at something in a vacuum.

Take the Polish Avant Garde Black Metal group, Cultes Des Ghoules. Last year, they dropped, probably the best black metal concept record based on a play. Seriously, that's one of the best albums of 2017 period.

Now, that record checked off all of my boxes, which is makes Sinister so difficult for me, as it's certainly not a Coven Part Deux.

It's pretty far away from that album in fact. It would be unrealistic to expect a sequel, but what do we have on their fourth release?

Like I inferred from the cover, Sinister feels like an extended black magic ceremony. First the circle is drawn. Then the incantation is given. Then the demon begins to push through the barrier that separates the ethereal planes from our world.

After the muck freely flows onto the floor and the desolate one has been restored to the physical realms, you can't un-ring the bell.

Cultes Des Ghoules has maintained a similar sound and its greasy swagger sounds ever so delicious intertwining in this dirty magic.

Moloch: Something New and Retro At The Same Time

Way over there on the side of the world, there's an artist by the name of Moloch.

He's from Opole, Poland.

Moloch is an electronic black metal band. His works are inspired from a variety of sources, but mostly from Science Fiction and Horror.

On April 30, Via Nocturna released his latest album, The Other Side.

There were many different things to ask and we did just that.

Check it out below.

Glacially Musical: Thank you for taking a little time for us today.
Moloch: The pleasure is all mine, thanks for having me.
GM: On my site, mostly what we covered is some sort of metal. It's not uncommon to blur the lines, but tell me what synthwave is.

LP Review: "Darkness..." by Mordor

Darknes...
In the darkest depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair...

It's been almost fifty years since Robert Plant put that line on wax in the classic track, Ramble On.

In 1986, that was the first time I'd ever heard anyone say Mordor that I could recall. The Rings cartoon movie...never saw the whole thing and never got past Frodo talking about his missing finger

Yes years later, those Peter Jackson movies....they're on my shelf on blu-ray, but Randall Graves was right.

He was right.

Today's Mordor isn't a Led Zeppelin clone, nor do they seem to be writing songs about The Lord of the Rings. It's just that their name made me think of other things and past experiences that make me smile.

LP Review: "Sporysz" by Jarun

Sporysz
After walking out of Eyes Wide Shut, I turned to my date and said, you know there was a lot going on in that movie.

Later it was tossed back in my face because...

That's what people who didn't understand something say when they don't know what to say.

Now, had I said that today, it would have been, wow I'm still processing that movie. This is precisely what I said last night after a viewing of Your Name and my wife said she wholly understood.

It's a much better situation to be in, but the point is more about the processing of the things going on in an artistic venture.

In my mind, it's better to leave someone speechless after they take in your vision rather than their being able to speak about it at great lengths after one listening or viewing.

TLP Review: "Coven, or Evil Ways Instead of Love" by Cultes des Ghoules

Coven, or Evil Ways Instead of Love
Remember when Metallica's Black Album hit?

Well, think back before that album to ...And Justice For All and then think forward (but still back) to the press they did explaining why they weren't writing long songs anymore.

Lars explained about how they had taken that whole mini-epic thing as far it could go. This was a statement that had me totally confused.

Those songs were pushing TEN MINUTES. How in the world could these be seen as mini epics?

How little I knew, but let's remember that this was not only pre-YouTube but pre-internet. Prog was a movement whose day had been done for well over a decade so it wasn't like  Yes was being played on the radio.

LP Review: "Księżyc milczy luty" by Furia

Księżyc milczy luty
Your friend and humble narrator, has been married for nearly seven years at the time of this writing. (Just slightly over a month later, on Repeal Day, it'll have been seven years.)

But in the before time, I found myself single, my era of online dating began.

What else is there to do after having been ensconced in a 12 year plus relationship. It's not like I could begin dating friends, a new circle had to be drawn.

If anyone is curious, yes, we are presently living in domestic bliss in the now time and the rest of this is about the before time.

Online dating is essentially setting yourself up on as many blind dates as is humanly possible. There is very little to go on aside from a photo and a few words of whatever.

Well, what's never visible or enumerated in the profile is the author's crazy, though I did try to get a goodly chunk of mine in there. It's only after digging a little deeper do we see what lurks.

Album Review: "Anxiety Never Descending" by Kult Mogil

Anxiety Never Descending
When I was very young, I was watching an episode of Solid Gold or Star Search, and the host was talking about a talented young artist up next.

I was confused.

To me, artists drew pictures, painted, sculpted, etc and then I saw it was a singer. So, I rightly, assumed they painted on the side.

I didn't know then that music is an art form. It's kind of funny, music is the only art where saying it's artistic is a compliment.

Kind of like how in American Football it's the only place were calling an athlete athletic is a compliment!

I suppose it has something to do with how many more people make a living off of music, or at least used to. Music, like all art forms, is a method of expression and Poland's Kult Mogil has a lot to express.
