Beer Thirty with Screams of Syrens

Today, we're checking in with Screams of Syrens.

They hail from the Inland Empire, just a moment. I need to google something unrelated.

Apparently, that's from Southern California. I've never been down that way, I'm a big fan of NorCal myself.

I wonder if they have a rivalry there like we do between East and West Missouri? We're better than you Kansas City!!!

So, if you're one of those techno folks, check out some tunage of theirs on SPOTIFY

Beer Thirty with Connor McCray of Vis Mystica

Lately, all anybody wants to talk to me about is damned high school. I mean, it's nobody's fault but mine, but I'm going to complain about my embarrassment of riches!

Thankfully, there's a band hailing from somewhere in the far off reaches of Pennsylvania. Former home of my grandmother and current home of my favorite mascot, GRITTY!

Here's a couple of guys who love themselves some Star Wars, so they're writing music. Finally, Nerdcore Metal.

Hey, I see you Powerglove.

Check out some Star Wars inspired metal on BANDCAMP!

Beer Thirty with Alexander

Remember our new friends in Alexander? Well now they're willing to give everybody the downlow on what kind of beers they're drinking.

Quick reminder, and I know it's hard to tell sometimes based on this silly blog, but Alexander are a musical act.

If you think they've got some good beer taste...

Check out some tunes HERE.

Beer Thirty with NoSelf

NoSelf has given us their tour du beers.

Check out their latest single HERE.

In the meantimne, crack open a Scottish Ale and read on.

This is a really good question. I love all kinds of different styles, but I definitely lean toward IPA’s.

My all-time favorite IPA is the Shark Attack from New Smyrna Beach Brewing Company. With a close 2nd Space Dust by Elysian Brewing.

2. Many international people have laughed at me for this, but American Beer is the best in the world. Not American Lagers, that piss water is best used for drinking 15 of them while you're at the karaoke bar, but American Craft Beer.

Which nation is pumping out the best beer?

Beer Thirty with PQ of Cell Press

Welcome to the land of the side piece, and let's be honest, there's no better side piece than a cold beer.

Today's band, Cell Press, features members of lots of other bands, most notably The Great Sabatini.

Vocalist of the group, PQ, has deigned us (or perhaps the topic) worthy of response and for that we are forever grateful.

Check out their latest album on BANDCAMP while PQ makes you thirsty.

Beer Thirty with Ysgaroth

If you're looking for a band that's got too many things going on all at once, you might want to look into Ysgaroth.

They've pretty much got their fingers in all of the metal pies.

I bet that looks a bit like Terminator 2...

Anyway, these British Columbians can be found on the greatest music website on the planet, BANDCAMP.

Now, let's crack open a beer to go with that metal.

When I first got into beer I couldn’t get enough of stouts, but over time I’ve just come to love sours - it doesn’t matter what kind.

Bottle conditioned, fermented on berries, whatever. My favourite sour I’ve ever had was the Strathcona Brewing Love Buzz, which was a vanilla raspberry sour - best beer I’ve ever had, and it was only a limited release.

Life is pain.

Beer Thirty with King Ov Wyrms

It's time to get SPOOOOKY!!

Oh wait, it's November and after the election, but whatever. Arizona is now officially bad ass. So, let's move on from that shall we? We have a band from Tuscon, AZ here and surprisingly enough, they're a metal band and for some reason, they wanna talk to me about beer!

I know, I know, I was shocked too. So far they've dropped a few singles and I think you'd do oh so well to stream them on BANDCAMP.

Now, BEEEEEER!

Beer Thirty with Autocatalytica's Eric Thorfinnson

What happens if you ask a Canadian about beer and question them on whether or not American beer is defeating them?

Well, I didn't know before today, but now I do. Shots are fired, Canada. Canadians, former ones anyway, are now singing the praises of American Craft Beer.

I'm telling you, give a man a beard, a 23% ABV stout, and enough hops to take down a Cardassian Military Installation, and you've made a new friend who'll want to listen to Japanese pressings of Pink Floyd with you.

But you should check out some tunes from Autocatalytica if you're into ... if you're into... Well, honestly, I can't tell you what kind of music they are, but their deeply insane grooves will give you the good news.

Check them on BANDCAMP.

Beer Thirty with Adam Tremblett of The Dead Centuries

As we sit, my beer fridge, isn't quite fallow, but it's not bursting at the seams either.

Personally, if the beer fridge isn't full, why even have it in the first place?

As of this writing, it's holding some Public House Brewing Elusive IPA, Genessee Brewing 12 Horse Ale, and Public House's Marzen.

Tomorrow will be another fill up day. As the summer was financially as disciplined as Anakin visiting the Sand People...it's been a struggle to get back to Obi-Wan level discipline.

This summer has been hard and I've been filling all the holes with all the things I love, but it's not like this guy is so special in that regard.

In the meantime, spin this song if you didn't last week.

Beer Thirty with Anthea

We're checking back in with Anthea. This time, we're going to hear all about beer preferences.

As always, get on their WEBSITE with the appropriate gusto.

Beer Thirty with Altan Aydin of Never Elected

It's time to meet someone new. There's always another fish out there.

Right now, I don't know what to buy. All of my faves haven't got a record out, but there's always someone else to meet.

(Of course I mean that they don't have new records I don't have...I have US + THEM, S&M2, etc.)

It's kind of like beer really. If your shop is out of that delicious double IPA you've been enjoying for the past few weeks, naturally they're going to have more of them out there.

Today, Never Elected's Altan Aydin.

What do you need to know about Never Elected that I can't tell you? This pretty sweet, rockin' music video ought to give you an idea of what they're all about... Check it HERE.

While you've got that going in the background, let's talk about America's number 1 beverage, BEER!

Beer Thirty with Phillip Funderburk of WoR

Groove Metal is alive and well. It's doing so well in fact that WoR dropped a groovin' and still heavy record on your head.

In fact, you can pick up this new metal spinner at all the major outlets, including the ones where you don't even spin anything...it's just air.

Check it out HERE.

But, in the the mean time, Mister Funderburk has left us a thirst trap.

Hey this is Phil from the metal band WoR. Thanks for having us on here!

I’m by far the biggest beer nerd in the band so Im stoked for this interview! Make sure to drink a few cold ones and listen our debut album “Prisoners” out on all platforms August 7th. Let’s talk beer!

Beer Thirty with Robert Fearey of The Myopia Condition

You know how we do here. We find Canadians and force them into submission until such point that that accept that Americans are both better at winning Stanley Cups and brewing beer.

So, I don't need to proof read The Myopia Condition's answers to know that they have both praised the deposed, but still defending, Stanley Cup Champions and Urban Chestnut Brewing.

But, check out their tunes at YOUTUBE

So, let's talk beer.

1. My personal favorite beer style is the might Double India Pale Ale. The best DIPA in the world is STLIPA by Urban Chestnut. Tell me about your favorite style.

That’s tough to answer but I’d have to go with a nice dry citrus pale ale.  I love the initial bite and the fact they don’t linger too long.

Beer Thirty with James Brookes of Evertrapped

I don't know about you, but with this pandemic, losing family members, and just plan old unbearable stress, one of the great pleasures I've been able to allow myself is a nice cold beer to go with the shiny new records I've acquired.

With that said, it's really cool to get in a beer thirty column with someone again. Today, James Brookes of Evertrapped will give us his beer opinions.

It's cool to get someone in Montreal to give their beer tastes isn't it?

While you're reading, check out BANDCAMP.

1. My personal favorite beer style is the might Double India Pale Ale. The best DIPA in the world is STLIPA by Urban Chestnut. Tell me about your favorite style.

I am also a big fan of IPA, double or otherwise. One of the best ones I've ever had if actually from Brazil. It's called Vixnu and it's impossible to find.

An Imperial IPA.

The first time I tried it was at a beer fest in Montreal and it took me years until I could get another one. A colleague of mine managed to get one imported for me and it was great. It's got everything...perfect malty flavor mixed with just the right amount of bitterness.

And even at 9%, you don't notice it...unless of course, you drink too many of them.

(NOTE: I had a beer from Quebec that it took me years to find again, Quelque Chose, Cherry Ale served hot.)

Beer Thirty with Illuminated Minverva

Welp.

We're still neck deep into the pandemic and I dunno about you, but I'm drinking beers to help me deal with this bullspit.

So, along with Pandemic Dispatches, it seemed only appropriate to reactivate the Beer Thirty Column. Not only do I love beers, my readers love beers, and what self respecting metal head doesn't enjoy a good beer?

Today, we're talking to a Calgarian from Calgary, Alberta. I mean, that was obvious wasn't it? Anyhoo, Illuminated Minerva is totally into beer.

But what about their music I hear you thinking.

They play some instrumental prog metal. You can hear it over at their BANDCAMP page.

But for now, BEER!

Beer Thirty with Steve Scavuzzo of Clouds Taste Satanic

Clouds Taste Satanic
How long has it been? I'm not certain, but I saw these photos of one of the coolest looking records I'd seen in quite some time.

Then it turns out the band has a killer name and folks I'm tight with (well tight with on twitter) were singing their praises.

It's instrumental doom metal and well, that's enough to get me curious.

It wasn't long until I was spinning Evil Eye on my turntable.

The good folks in Clouds Taste Satanic have another record about to drop...go preorder that on BANDCAMP and find out what Steve thinks about beers.

Beer Thirty With Erik Leonhard of KOSM

KOSM
Again, because I'm cold it's time to check out another warmer weather band.

So allow me to introduce you to Vancouver's own: KOSM.

Here's a band that loves HP Lovecraft. They just released a concept record based on Lovecraft's stories.

Personally, I haven't read any of the man's work, but his influence in pop culture and metal cannot be denied.

If you're into metal, beer, and Chutulu, READ ON! But, check out COSMONAUT while you're doing that.

1. My personal favorite beer style is the might Double India Pale Ale. The best DIPA in the world is STLIPA by Urban Chestnut.

Tell me about your favorite style.

I like IPAs quite a bit. I think I lot of people dismiss them immediately because of the bitter taste, but there’s nothing quite as refreshing as an ice cold IPA on a hot day.

Really though, my favourite style of beer is probably German Wheat Beer. I specify German mostly just because of their purity laws.

I find that a lot of producers of wheat beer get really carried away with adding a ton of fruit flavours. There’s nothing really wrong with this, but in my opinion you can’t beat a plain wheat beer.

My favourite is Franziskaner, which is tragically not available in B.C., Canada, where I live.

Beer Thirty with Bill Miller from Age of Truth

Age of Truth
It's really starting to seem like my future move to Philadelphia is the right idea for me as a metalhead.

More and more...bands from the City of Brotherly Love are coming into the queue of my personal conciousness and they're really kicking a lot of ass.

We all know that I love St. Louis, but and I'm sorry Redbait and Torchlight Parade, our local metal scene kind of sucks.

Yet we have a strong metal show going community.

Like, Heavy Metal Kilt Guy, we all know him. I've seen that guy in at least 5 different clubs.

But back to Philly, the loving city where fans huck batteries at baseball players....let's talk about Age of Truth. Check out their latest record, Threshold on BANDCAMP.

Now, let's have a couple beers!
