DLP Review: "(Untitled)" by Grave Upheaval

Indiscernible Title
Back in my day, when I was a kid, we didn't have those fancy cellular phones with the Candy Crushers.

If you were lucky enough to have a video game system in your house, a single level of Pac-Man eating rectangular dots was enough to keep you entertained for hours on end.

If you didn't like one of the shows on the TV channel, you could always switch it to one of those other channels...we had a grand total of six if you include the three local channels as well as the three national channels.

Now, don't think that with our purchasing of records and the riding of the trains rather than flying on planes means that a long and flowing lamentation on what used to be is coming... because it's not. But in before we get to it all, let's talk about staring contests.

Split LP Review: "Split LP/CD" by Bunkur and Mordor

Split LP/CD
Once more we go into our oft tread fields of Splits.

They've become one of my absolute favorite things to cover if we're being completely honest with each other.

Today though, there was a terrifying thought in my head as I was listening to this album.

Glacially Musical is, frankly, a cheerleader website. It's no secret that we only do positive reviews. My philosophy is that quality music is  not only being made, but being made in abundance.

This labor of love was started when it came to my attention that music was still worth a damn and The Big Four weren't the only ones still making music we all need to hear. It's actually a method of keeping my readership lower than it could be. No one wants to read about positive stuff all the time. So thank you for being here.

At the halfway point of the first side, it occurred to me, oh lord, what if side two totally sucks? Then what do I do?

LP Review: "Altars of Devotion" by Harvest Gulgaltha

Altars of Devotion
One of my many maladies is insomnia. It's nothing new and has been treating me to sleepless nights and drowsy days for the past 25 years or so.

Thankfully, my insomnia is mild and rarely are entire nights lost to me, but you know how if you need to wake up early in the morning, you just turn in earlier?

I can't do that.

So, when it's time to turn in, emptiness of mind is what I seek. When my eyes close, my brain starts to work. This way, that way, thinking about that person who unfriended me on Facebook or this or that.

Rarely is it anything important, but this is why I read for a minimum of sixty minutes each night before going to sleep. There's often a record playing in the background too. It gives my mind that relaxing moment it needs to shut off before sleep.

Album Review: "Cursus Impasse: The Pendlomic Vows" by Howls of Ebb

Cursus Impasse: The Pendlomic Vows
About 24 years ago, there was a local band in St. Louis called Crucible. They were good friends of my cousins.

On side two, they used a snipped of dialog from Stanley Kubrick's masterwork, A Clockwork Orange. At that time, it wasn't clear how much of an impact this movie would have on my life.

But here we are not too shy of three decades later and four decades after Malcom McDowell brought Alexander DeLarge to life on the big screen and the slang is still a part of my personal lexicon.

You may have noticed little snippets of it here and there in my posts. Over the years there have been a great many discussions about the English meanings of the Nadsat words.

It's only now that I know the true meaning of the slang word, horrorshow.
