Centuries ago New Orleans and St. Louis were a part of the same territory, The Louisiana Territory.

Other parts of the nation that don't have that direct connection to France don't feel the way we do here. Online pundits make fun of St. Louis for being the Gateway To The West.

But, we're proud of our historical position. We still remember a time when St. Louis was the European's frontier.

A family of New Orleanians (who came directly from France) made the arduous trek north and founded The City of St. Louis.

Louisiana, we're still siblings. So, we don't still make our living on the fur trade and you're still making yours off of...wait..

What was the New Orleanian method of money making back in the old days? Well, if it wasn't terribly obvious, Amabassador is from Louisiana, Baton Rouge to be specific.

Those old connections though, they never really die. Though my family isn't native to St. Louis, their music still speaks to me via French back channels. (Also, I'm not French.)

Last month, Post-Rocker(s?) AstorVoltaires released their first album in five years on Slow Burn Records, La Quintaesencia de Júpiter.

It's a little abnormal for me to return to something from a minute ago, but this one. There must have been a cosmic reason for checking this one out.

This track is neither heavy nor crushing. One would be hard pressed to even say there are riffs. It's a piece of music that's a little bit different and it speaks to me in a way that's hard to pin down.

Vinyl Review: "Avantist" by Avantist

Can I give you some real talk right now?

Every so often there's some big talk about our global reach and offices in other nations, but you know that's not real right? Glacially Musical is a one man operation and I work my butt off in order to bring new music to the people. (GOOD new music.)

So right now, this post, along with two other vinyl reviews, is late. My turntable is up in my sitting room. For those of you who watch the unboxing videos, you'll see that I listen to these records in our second living room.

Well, presently, we are doing more than painting, but less than remodeling it so, it's not fit to sit in. Again, I cannot sit in my sitting room. As of this writing, I'm drinking a beer and working on this post with  my computer on a lapdesk whilst I lay down in my bed.

So big apologies to Avantist and No Trend Records. You should have already read this post, but my real life got in the way....

"Phenomenal Problems" by El Ten Eleven

Remember the episode of The Simpsons when they struck oil? Otto's request for the school from their newfound wealth was double guitars. That's something that's totally stuck with me.

Now, here we have a double guitarist who actually utilizes both necks, but it's a bit more strange, because it's a bass guitar and a lead guitar on one body. Check out this insane song by El Ten Eleven.

Through the magic of looping, he even plays them both simultaneously.

If you're new to the boys like myself, they're a post-rock duo from San Diego and Burbank, CA. They're on the cusp of releasing their tenth album, Banker's Hill on August via Top Shelf Records.
