LP Review: "Perfect Patterns" by Dead Stars

Perfect Patterns
Oh my friends. Do you remember High School?

Unfortunately, the median age of the Glacially Musical readers is unknown to me, perhaps some advanced analytics are required...but can even google supply me with that information?

Well, let's all assume that the average reader is at minimum of a junior in high school?

For me, it was hard fitting in until I learned how to be myself. There was a conversation about this earlier today, and it occurred that it was easy for me to like what I liked, because I didn't have many friends anyway and was wildly unpopular.

What every parent tries to teach their children is just that though. Be precisely the person you are inside on the outside and your crowd will find you.

Album Review: "You're Doin' Great! (For the Record)" by Bong Mountain

This debut from Bong Mountain, the 4-man band out of Grand Rapids, Michigan, has the clean and polished sounds of a third of fourth offering.

Almost two years in the making, You're Doing Great! (For the Record) defies genre definition, gifting us with the sounds of rock, alt-pop, and punk, sometimes all in the same song.

Comprised of crisp guitar riffs, speedy drum beats, crunchy vocals and a fun bass line that guides you but never overpowers.

Bong Mountain presents a the kind of sound you hope to find whether driving around town, skateboarding through the park, or fishing off the pier. It's imminently listenable, sometimes fist-pumping rock & roll, others smooth and soothing, in only the way sweet reverb can be after a long day.

Album Review: "Twilight EP" by Skyfox

It seems like I'm doing a lot of reviews of EPs doesn't it? Well, normally I'm not really a purchaser of EPs, but I just seem to have found a few in my possession lately...and there will be at least one more EP reviewed in the near future....

Here's a band that under normal circumstances would have stayed far outside of my radar. I discovered Skyfox because of MC Lars who was coming to St. Louis on tour with I Fight Dragons. Upon learning of the line up of bands, I did some checking. Between my friends and I that were going, none of us had ever heard of Skyfox. So, I checked them out on Youtube and honestly, I wasn't overly excited.

Upon arriving at the venue, I went over to the merch tables, manned by the artists themselves, and picked up three EPs, but not Skyfox's. We then listened to the opening band and had a beer or two, but as soon as Skyfox kicked into their first song, and the singer was swinging a sweet Gibson Les Paul Supreme, I just got it and I went and picked up this CD.
