5 Min Origin Stories with Kore Rozzik

If you've been thinking about how you haven't heard about Kore Rozzik for a minute and you've been wondering how their music is formed, what their influences are, and other standard journalistic fare..

Have I got something for you!

Make sure you get all over their new album HERE.

1. Is there an event you can point to you that made you say, wow, that's the instrument I want to play?

Not like guitar or drums, but the reason why you play the model you do?

The first band I got into was QUEEN. So I wanted to be Roger Taylor (Drums).

My dad hustled me and I wound up with a guitar. I was naturally better at guitar anyways and I do recall see Kurt Cobain and thinking that it was doable LOL.

5 Min Origin Stories with Cryptonight

You know what nobody does?

Djent/Doom Metal.

Well, here's a good chance for you to find out more about Djoom Metal. Surely this can be done well right?

Admit it, you're interested now. In your mind, you're starting to wonder if these two opposite ends of the metal spectrum can exist in the same space.

Find out HERE.

While you're finding out, check out what Jekyll thinks about how they started it all.

5 Min Origin Stories with Evertrapped

Let me be honest briefly, and then I'll bet back to the awkward metal takes....

My personal computer died a few weeks back when I spilled beer on it. I've now unlocked hoosier level 5 I think.

Anyway, here's to being back happy and writing hard.

Today, we're talking to Evertrapped again. It's fun to get to know these bands in a new and odd way.

They've gotten in on our Pandemic Dispatches and Classic Spins, but let's find out more about these Montreallers on the eve of the Montreal Canadiens returning to the NHL Playoffs.

While you're reading, might I suggest a bit of reading music? Check their latest VIDEO.

5 Min Origin Stories with Kavorka

I want to show you this band Kavorka and find out how they got it all started. They're from my favoritely named city in the world...

Reykjavik, Iceland.

Now, do you think they had anything to say about Icelandic Honey Week? It's almost like the Icelandic metal bands don't even give two craps about their honey.

Anyhoo...they'll be releasing their debut, Internal Rituals on glorious vinyl.

Keep an eye on their BANDCAMP in the meantime.

It's time to learn more about what makes them tick.

1. Is there an event you can point to you that made you say, wow, that's the instrument I want to play? Not like guitar or drums, but the reason why you play the model you do?

My answer is Kurt Cobain´s Fender Mustang.

5 Min Origin Stories with Chad McMurray of RivetSkull

From over there in Seattle, WA, we have a group called RivetSkull...not sure what that name conjures up in your soul, but for me, I'm instantly transported to the worst Metallica recordings I have ever heard....Night of the Rivvit Heads...

Which make St. Anger sound like Master of Puppets..

But, these folks aren't anything like that at all.

They're a modern day proto metal band. How many bands like that can you name? They took all the metal and gave it a miss and went back to the godfathers.

Check out their record on BANDCAMP.

5 Min Origin Stories with Held In Secret

It's been bugging me that I may have misnamed this column, but it seems semi-appropriate, so I'm sticking with it.

Once again, I'm hearing from our friends to the north, Held In Secret. I love that their press photo features the snowy wastes of Northern Canada.

Or maybe Southern Canada.

Perhaps the Maritimes? Nope, they're from Ottawa.

Anyway, check their groovy tunes on SPOTIFY. Stream it so much that Spotify has to send them a Twoney.

For now, though, let's talk shop.

5 Min Origin Stories with Killitorous

One of the things I continually hear in my personal crusade for new music is why in the world should I listen to this band?

I have all the music I need.

Well, Killitorous answers that question better than I ever could on their BANDCAMP bio:

Killitorous is a three guitar technical death/grind band that features endless blastbeats, non-stop screaming, and relentless 90's movie referneces.

OK, I'm interested.

5 Min Origin Stories with AK of Special Ops

Once again we are talking to the Montreal Metal Horde of Darkness but still a bit light, Special Ops.

You should be jumping all over their latest SINGLE HERE.

While you're streaming that glorious gold, let's find out more about how they got started.

1. Is there an event you can point to you that made you say, wow, that's the instrument I want to play? Not like guitar or drums, but the reason why you play the model you do?

Yes there definitely is, and I have to thank Ebay for it, yes you can laugh. I was the only guitar player in the band at the time, and we needed to heavy things up, but dropping to lower keys meant losing the higher spectrum of things, so I decided to try a 7 string.

5 Min Origin Stories with Monolith's Andy

OK, here me out. Today, I'm talking to Andy Viviers of the avant garde South African death metal set, Monolith.

This is probably the first band from South Africa being covered on these pages, but not the first Africans of course.

So, let's find out what makes Andy tick a bit shall we?

Check out the new record on BANDCAMP.

5 Min Origin Stories with Victoria K

You'll never be able to tell me that we have enough kinds of metal in this world. Victoria K bring us the fantastic Symphonic Metal.

What's really hard to believe is that there was a time when metal and the symphony where wholly disconnected.

Randy Rhoads changed all of that by melding the classical guitar with the metal and the world is better off for it.

Check them out. They're on the up and up.

In the mean time, let's find out what makes Victoria K what she is.

5 Min Origin Stories with Turbo's Evan Frizzle

Check out the upcoming LP from Turbo. It's the only album that can be inspired by Black Sabbath and be called Fast As Fvck.

Still trying to work that out.

You can preorder it on BANDCAMP and preview the record.

1. Is there an event you can point to you that made you say, wow, that's the instrument I want to play? Not like guitar or drums, but the reason why you play the model you do?

I (Evan Frizzle) believe in a "the wand chooses the wizard" kind of mentality when it comes to picking your specific instrument or what-have-you.

5 Min Origin Stories with Tzimani's Ed Vasquez

You know, it's time to think about the beach, the sun, and staying the hell out of that. I'm the guy who on his last day of vacation was made fun of by the MC Lady at a Mexican resort for being so damned white.

Metal though, it doesn't matter where it comes from and we all know how idyllic scenes seem to create some amazing damned metal.

Seriously, how can you live in San Francisco and be angry?

That place is perfect but the Big Four found a way.

As it happens, Tzimani is from San Diego. Your average person wouldn't end up metal as hell there. It's not like here in St. Louis where it's too damned cold in the winter and too fucking hot in the summer.

But check out their tunes on Bandcamp.

5 Min Origin Stories with Lakeman

One of the cool things about this particular column is that folks really come back with all sorts of different answers.

So, today we're checking back in with Lakeman.

They're letting us know what there is to know.

Check out their latest record, Progenitor, on BANDCAMP.

Now, let's get to know them.

1. Is there an event you can point to you that made you say, wow, that's the instrument I want to play?

Not like guitar or drums, but the reason why you play the model you do?

I am an opportunist, when I see something that comes into my reach, I will reach out to it. Being a multi-instrumentalist in LAKEMAN I use a vast collection of instruments and gear. Most of which I saw in pawn shops or online for a good price and thought it would be interesting to use in the project.

I am sorry to say I don't really subscribe to brand loyalty. Anything can be used if you find out your chemistry with the object in question.

5 Min Origin Stories with Lycanthro's James Delbidge

Lycanthro
You tell me, is there any city in the world that's better than Ottawa, ON?

Well, I'd imagine those Montreal folks might have something to say along with the people who live in TO.

Personally, I'd like to that St. Louis is a pretty sweet place to live as well.

But I'm just filling space here, let's talk about some power metal outta the Capital of Canada.

Lycanthro.

Check them out on Facebook and in the meantime, let's get to know them a little bit better.

5 Minute Origin Stories with Lost Legacy

If I could get personal for just a moment, there was a death in my family and it's put me off of getting anything written.

But, as life is, I have to get up and get back to being me.

So, with that said, please look for some more content again. Another pitiable excuse, I still haven't quite gotten the handle of reviewing albums whilst working from home.

I'm going to work on that, but in the meantime, we have another go with Lost Legacy.

Check it out below and make sure you check them out.

Here's their BANDCAMP.

5 Min Origin Stories with Imonolith's Ryan Van Poederooyen

Today, we get to learn about Imonolith's origins from their drummer, Ryan Van Poederooyen.

If you wanna know why, check out this VIDEO.

They're out on tour this spring in Europe and their debut album is being released on 3/27/20.

You can preorder that HERE.

1. Is there an event you can point to you that made you say, wow, that's the instrument I want to play? Not like guitar or drums, but the reason why you play the model you do?

RVP - When I was in my teens, I was saving up to buy my first real acoustic drum set. I remember vividly when I went to finally buy my drum kit at a big music store in Vancouver, BC, Canada.
