Concert Review: The Obsessed with Fatso Jetson, Karma To Burn, and Spacetrucker | Fubar 4/20/17

The Obsessed
Please find below, the retelling of a strange night where memories may not be what they seem.

Captain's Log: 94904.3

As my landing craft came to a halt, it was very clear that I was nowhere near my final destination. The coordinates listed in the on board computers had me on the outskirts of this particular meeting place.

It was best that we didn't raise any alarm as we walked down the street. Unlike most of my voyages, it appeared that we were walking through a culture that was 150 years behind that of our own.

Wearing dark colors, I blended in and found that they did expect me. My seeking of an audience was approved by the councilor's gatekeeper. The disguise worked perfectly. Mind tricks were unnecessary and thankful we were. As my ingress preceded the ceremonial dances, I requested a local beverage from the host.

Album Review: "Mountain Czar" by Karma To Burn

Mountain Czar
Could you imagine being a tsar in Feudal Russia?

Back then, all of the little nobles were called tsars and of course, there was the Great Tsar living in the Kremlin.

The Feudal Eras in any culture intrigue me.

Being a daimyo in then Sengoku Era of Japan or a Lord in Feudal England.

The very idea of being your own island is something very brave. At any given time any of the citizens of these fiefdoms could be killed, captured, or conscripted.

Such a life they must have led. This is not to say that I would gladly give up my Twenty First Century Life for Fifteenth Century Japan. No matter how pretty Edo Castle was!

Interview Karma To Burn Talks Stoner Rock, Numbers, and Malt Liquor

2/11/15 Setlist
When Karma To Burn came into St. Louis on February 11th towards the very end of their tour, they took out some time to speak to me.

Years on, they're still touring, churning out albums, and hailing the almighty riff.

Glacially Musical: Let's start off with the simple things. What are your influences?

Will, Guitar: I don't know. As a kid I started off with classic rock and heavy metal. Around 12 or 13 I moved onto a lot of punk rock and hardcore.

As a real little kid, I listened to real rock'n'roll: Buddy Holly, Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis.

Started to get heavier, Zeppelin, Hendrix, moved onto AC/DC, Def Leppard, and Iron Maiden. Moved onto Black Flag, Sex Pistols, and Dead Kennedy. Then we came up with this crapola.

Evan, Drums: I grew up around a lot of music. My parents always went to shows. There was a good music community in the town where I grew up and I always gravitated towards the drums. I was always listening to classic rock, just the heavy stuff. It was obvious to me that when I was young, I was just digging rock'n'roll.

Sort of the same story as Will. Classic Rock and heavier stuff. Going from there, I had my ups and downs, especially my teens. There was some stuff in there I definitely wish I wouldn't have listened to, but I came out of that all right.

Album Review: "Arch Stanton" by Karma To Burn

Arch Stanton
The guitar instrumental album.

Being a person who attempts to play the guitar and growing up when I did, I love the guitar instrumentalists: Vai, John 5, Satch, Dinner Music For The Gods, and Buckethead.

I'm also sure there's another hundred thousand I'm  not familiar with whom I'd love if I had the chance to hear them.

It's well documented that I love instrumental guitar, but I also greatly enjoy the symphony, blues guitar, and even some jazz.

Vocals and lyrics aren't the basis of a song for me, so I can appreciate the gorgeousness of simply hearing someone playing an instrument. Having said all that, I know that most people in the United States cannot appreciate instrumental music and require vocals or it's not a song.

I just don't get that.
