MEOWTal with Monica Strut

In the current state of the world, it's important that I continue working hard here. We may all be stuck in our houses, but it's important that we continue working together.

If you didn't know, there are also Instagram Lives on the IG page each Wednesday at 8pm EST.

But instead of talking about all of that and the stuff that's out there.

Crack open a beer and we're going to talk to marketing guru Monica Strut about her cat.

She's also all up into that metal shiz. You can see that at BANDCAMP.

1. In my house, we have three cats named Wickett, Louis IX, and Randall "Pink" Floyd. How many do you have and what are they called?

I have one cat called Cash!

Pink Floyd Deep Diving #2: The Jurassic Period

The first post to contain actual music will be this one. Perhaps it should've started with number one, but it did not.

I begin with Piper At The Gates of Dawn. This album, along with the following, is the A Nice Pair pressing from 1974.

This set was purchased at The Record Exchange on Hampton Ave in St. Louis, MO. I'd seen this pressing at an antique mall I routinely frequent for records as well.

More on that place later in the series, but I'd always placed it back on the rack because... I have Relics and that's enough of this era for me right?

I'm going to make one thing quite clear.

I find the Syd Barrett era of Pink Floyd to be a novelty. Now would be a spectacular time for you to either send me a nasty email or for you to comment below about how I'm a terrible human being, I don't understand Pink Floyd, and certainly my writing is subpar compared to the other semi-pro music bloggers in the world.

Classic Spins with Scorn's Steven Rowlands

Are you into some serious head banging death metal that's gonna make you think about the legends of old?

You might just be ready for Scorn.

You can check out their latest video on YouTube and if that gets you going, be sure to stream the rest of the album on BANDCAMP.

1. My favorite kind of album is the concept album.

The Wall is my absolute favorite. Beyond the amazing songs, it has spectacular nostalgia for me. What's your favorite one and why?

I'm a huge fan of Rush, the album 2112 is my favourite concept album.

2. My very first album was Live Evil bY Black Sabbath. Since then I've had a strong affinity for the live record, even if they're a bit fake.

KISS set the bar with Alive!. Surely, it was fake, but it's got the best concert feel of any one.

Pizza Pie Do or Die with Into Pandeomonium's Saga

In January, six piece (yes....six) extreme metal band Into Pandemonium released their album, Darkest Rise.

Go ahead and steam that stuff on BANDCAMP.

But right now, let's talk about Pizza.

Because that's the content we all need right now, and if you're able to acquire a pizza pie right now, make sure you do the right thing and tip heavy.

Without further ado...

1. Pizza is the world's most perfect food. This is not up for debate. Please define pizza as based on your geographical location.

Saga.  Where I come from Pizza is some baked bread with marinara sauce and cheese with meat or any topping of your choice usually from around $10.00 or $11.99 for a Large or higher depending on your store of choice.

Pink Floyd Deep Diving #1: Adjusting The Lens

Source Material
Good afternoon.

During the mandatory at home orders we have in the City of St. Louis, I'm going to need to do something to fill my time a little bit. The idea here is to create a nexus of everything Glacially Musical is about and many, many things it's not about.

For starters, my blog is dedicated to the metal underground, but Pink Floyd is one of those bands that most metalheads of my generation and generations to come all seem to love.

They're not metal, but they are heavy in many different ways....which we'll get into as time wears on.

So, let's discuss what's happening with this series. For starters, this is bonus content and will not take any space way from what I already do. But, without the 2 hours a day in the car, there's a bit more time for writing.

This is is my project.

Pizza Pie Do or Die with Cam Bird

In case you've ever wondered, why does this heavy metal website talk about food so god damned much, it's because in a former life, I was a food and beer blogger.

That's part of why these are so interesting to me, but also because the USA is big country, but more than that, it's a great big world out there and right now, we're all a bit cordoned off from it.

So, talking to Cam Bird about Australian pizza has me in my happy place. Check out his rocking new album via BANDCAMP.

1. Pizza is the world's most perfect food. This is not up for debate. Please define pizza as based on your geographical location.

MEOWTAL with Turkey Vulture's Jessica

Are we all in for a Nor'easter? Today we get to hear from Connecticut's Turkey Vulture.

They're on BANDCAMP and you should be streaming the bejesus outta there stuff. They're cooking something up there that's a bit on the softer side....

Find out what.

But in the meantime, we're talking kitties. Because they have them.

1. In my house, we have three cats named Wickett, Louis IX, and Randall "Pink" Floyd. How many do you have and what are they called?

We have two cats, Pumpkin and Trogdor. They are both girls.

2. It's obvious where our cats got their names. Where did yours get theirs?

Review Round Up 3/20/20

Ersetu by Devangelic 5/15/20 (Willowtip Records)

In these scary times, it's important to remember that death metal is a cure all. (NOTE: This is not medical advice meant to cure, diagnose, or treat any disease or virus.)

I put this one on thinking it would be a nice meat and potatoes album of Brutal Death Metal. That's what Devangelic dropped on my head last time.

They are still every bit of a thunder and lightning band, but this record is much better than the last go round we had together.

There are touches here that didn't seem to exist last time, or they weren't pushed up far enough to really register into my psyche. Better solos, more melodic guitars. When a good band gets better, there's nothing more to ask for.

5 Min Origin Stories with Imonolith's Ryan Van Poederooyen

Today, we get to learn about Imonolith's origins from their drummer, Ryan Van Poederooyen.

If you wanna know why, check out this VIDEO.

They're out on tour this spring in Europe and their debut album is being released on 3/27/20.

You can preorder that HERE.

1. Is there an event you can point to you that made you say, wow, that's the instrument I want to play? Not like guitar or drums, but the reason why you play the model you do?

RVP - When I was in my teens, I was saving up to buy my first real acoustic drum set. I remember vividly when I went to finally buy my drum kit at a big music store in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Classic Spins with Lakeman

Today, Lakeman is going on the Classic Spins train.

These fellows are making a big name for themselves in the outer rim territories of British Columbia.

That's what they call Kelowna right? I'm probably confusing that with Star Wars as the pod races in St. Louis were canceled last night.

Either way, their latest progged out EP was released on Jan 10th.

You can check it out on BANDCAMP and own it for the less than five looneys. In fact, two twonies and one looney, and you'll get change back.

Anyway, enough of me.
1. My favorite kind of album is the concept album. The Wall is my absolute favorite. Beyond the amazing songs, it has spectacular nostalgia for me. What's your favorite one and why?

Video: "Ghost Train Haze" by Twin Wizard

Well, who out there remembers Telekinetic Yeti? Well, it appears that the yeti has headed into seclusion, but we have received a Wizard in its place.

Check this video out. It's doomy like you want.

Order the record HERE. Or if digital is your preferred medium, there's BANDCAMP. You can even get a download of the album todya.

Bonus Classic Spins with Manuel Iradian of Demise of the Crown

Heading into French Canada, we have Demise of the Crown.

Check out their Power Metal fused with some Melo-Death on BANDCAMP.

1. My favorite kind of album is the concept album. The Wall is my absolute favorite.

Beyond the amazing songs, it has spectacular nostalgia for me.

What's your favorite one and why?

**That's for sure a really hard question to answer, but the first that comes to mind is System Of A Down Toxicity…its amazing from A-Z, not one bad song…most original sound to come out of nu-metal (in my opinion).

Pizza Pie Do or Die with Hi/Jack

Drummer Ron "Hi" Terrell and guitarist/vocalist Max "Jack" Liam met in Milwaukee's underground music scene in 2014, becoming fast friends and a collaborators.

The band released a debut full length, No Cover, in 2015, followed by a live album in 2016, Turn It To Ten in 2017 and the Sunny Side Up EP in 2018.  Now preparing to put out the EP Rank and File, Hi/Jack looks forward to taking their "hi/energy" rock to the masses.

You should probably check out that latest EP of theirs over there on the BANDCAMP.

1. Pizza is the world's most perfect food. This is not up for debate. Please define pizza as based on your geographical location.

Well, I live in Wisconsin. So, I've had it all. Deep dish, hand tossed, pan style, thin crust....I just don't care for gluten free crusts or anything like that.

2. It's going to get controversial now. Pineapple on Pizza. Why or why not?

News: Death Courier Announces New Album

Death metal band Death Courier are back with what's arguably the strongest album of their illustrious career.

They've been around since 1987 but have managed to make sure that their music sounds remarkably fresh and exciting. You can stream one of the vicious tracks on YouTube and Bandcamp.

Legendary death metal band Death Courier are one of the earliest bands from the Greek metal scene releasing a slew of demos from way back in 1987 and putting out an album and an EP in the early '90s.

More than three decades later, the band is on the verge of releasing one of the strongest albums to come from the Greek death metal scene. It's hard to believe that this is the same band because the energy level is off the charts and everything has been amped up to match present day standards without of course changing the core sound and integrity.

Meowtal with João of Her Name Was Fire

Portuguese  hard rockers HER NAME WAS FIRE have dropped their new track "Another Rodeo" via PureGrainAudio.

The song is taken from their upcoming release Decadent Movement which will be released via Raging Planet Records in April.

If you're looking to sample the wares, HERE is where you can.

But this isn't about whether or not they're an amazing Portuguese death shoegaze folk jazz band, which is good, because they are not.

It's about kitties!

So screw on your best metal face and get fluffy!

1. In my house, we have three cats named Wickett, Louis IX, and Randall "Pink" Floyd. How many do you have and what are they called?

Well my parents always had cats, currently there are 3, this one in the photo is called Tufa (diminutive of pantufa, slipper in Portuguese ), there is also Jeremias and Kitty.

2. It's obvious where our cats got their names. Where did yours get theirs?

Pizza Pie Do or Die with Lonescar

Let's talk about those delicious fat riffs.

But instead of riffs, let's talk about pizza.

Lonescar has a new record out on BANDCAMP.

1. Pizza is the world's most perfect food. This is not up for debate. Please define pizza as based on your geographical location.

Our home lies along the border of Texas and Mexico, so culturally, we're essentially living in Mexico.

With that said, everyone down here loves a classic pie (hand tossed, hearty sauce, cheese and pepperoni), but some of us have added culture to the pie and come up with things like "Flaming Hot Cheetos & Taco Pizza" from Moran's Pizzaria.

2. It's going to get controversial now. Pineapple on Pizza. Why or why not?

LUCID DREAM Duck And Dive With 'The Great Dance Of The Spirit'

The Great Dance Of The Spirit is the fourth release from Italian progressive hard rock group Lucid Dream

The album is a concept based on the research of the subtle energetic dimensions of the ‘Great Spirit’; it’s the third and final chapter of the trilogy started with The Eleventh Illusion and Otherworldly

The Great Dance Of The Spirit is a voyage at the borders of the universe. The album was recorded (as were the previous ones) at 432Hz, making this sound deeper and nobler.
The work developed as a collection of hard rock songs, ballads and introspective moments accompanied by an exceptional string trio composed of Andrea Cardinale on first violin (virtuoso Paganini performed all over the world), Sara Calabria on viola and Rachele Rebaudengo on cello. The tracks have been composed and produced by Simone Terigi and mixed at Tabasco Studio, Sori, Italy by Lucid Dream and Nicola Sannino. Mastering was done by Simone Mularoni at Domination Studio, Republic of San Marino.

Dark Buddha Rising Return To Svart Records

Since their inception in 2007, with their first four albums being highly-coveted, sold-out private pressings, to subsequent Svart Records reissues, to their burgeoning fifth album DakhmandalDark Buddha Rising’s abyssic and meditative sonic-void has been opening up over the last 10 years to swallow more and more devotees in their wake.

Embraced into NeurosisNeurot Records fraternity, with 2015’s critically acclaimed sixth album Inversum, Tampere-based psychonauts, Dark Buddha Rising have captivated the collective consciousness of the heavy underground and achieved cult-legend status.

Review Round Up 03/06/20

Defying The Righteous Way by Cardinals Folly (03/06/20)

Every fear years, Cardinals Folly comes along and graces with their fuzzy, fuzzy presence.

This band is exactly what any fan would want out of a stoner doom fuzz band. Their songs are long and meandering.

Every so often, when not paying attention, this great melodic solos just show up. This is a wholly shred free record. There might be some hammer-ons or pull offs, but don't be looking for any two handed tapping.

The singer is not that great, but  just perfect for the project. From time to time, he leaves his comfort zone and begins the howl growls.

There's very little growth or expansion to their sound, but they've kind of perfected it and I for one hope they keep it going strong for years to come.

San Diego's brother only metal duo, Tzimani is about to drop their self-titled EP on digital this month and the vinyl's following in July.

They're also hitting the road for a bi-national tour of the US and Canada. Check out tour dates afterwards...

But now let's talk about awesome music.

1. My favorite kind of album is the concept album. The Wall is my absolute favorite. Beyond the amazing songs, it has spectacular nostalgia for me. What's your favorite one and why?

I am a huge sucker for concept albums.

The Wall being among one of my favorites, and it really set the tone and concept for generations to come in terms of overall approach to the rock opera/concept album theme.

I love how concept records tie in together one larger theme and some of the better approaches historically have interconnected songwriting, and my favorite, reprise in them.

Film School with Curtis Dewar

It's always nice to check in with Curtis Dewar of Dewar PR.

If you're metal and looking to make a splash, he's your dude.

1. What's the first movie you remember seeing as a child?

E.T. I remember going to that movie like 6 or 7 times.

As a result of watching it I developed an unhealthy addiction to Reese's pieces for a long time

2. When I was little, my parents didn't give a damn about what I saw when I was little, so it wasn't until I was about 12 that my folks told me to turn a movie off. What's the first one you were told you couldn't see/finish?

Out in Melbourne, Australia, One More Weekend is riding that we just released our debut record sort of wave that so many bands get to experience.

You should be checking it out on BANDCAMP.

For now, let's see what kinds of pizza they enjoy.

1. Pizza is the world's most perfect food. This is not up for debate.

Please define pizza as based on your geographical location.

Paul- Well to sum it all up we put egg on our Pizza and call it an Aussie

Connor- No idea why that makes it Australian, I had a seafood one the other day and it rocked my socks. Actually, I have Pizza socks too.

MEOWTAL with Brian Valdibia of Lonescar

Again, I'm setting my sites on the state of Texas and some grooving metal your way.

Check out the BANDCAMP to see why you should be throwing some Lincolns over at our good friends.

Or one Lincoln and a Hamilton...or 15 Sacejaweas. Am I the only one who loves those dollar coins?

1. In my house, we have three cats named Wickett, Louis IX, and Randall & Floyd. How many do you have and what are they called?

I have 2.

My wonderful disappearing act, the great & lovable Houdini, and her spoiled but extremely adorable son Smokifer aka “el Smokey”

2. It's obvious where our cats got their names. Where did yours get theirs?

Houdini got hers for being the best disappearing act I’ve ever seen. When we first got her she would hide for hours without a sound, and then you’d see her appear next to you.

Video: "The Poisoner" by White Crone

The Poisoner is the debut album from White Crone, a project by successful blues artist Lisa Mann who performs vocals, guitars and bass.

This album is the result of her dream to make a metal record that brings her music craft back to her teen roots of classic metal and doom. These blues influences, her experience in the music industry combined with the great presentation and contributions of talented guests makes for a high quality sound that can easily compete with major releases.

It’s strongly influenced by Mercyful Fate, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden but also would be perfect for fans of modern bands like Smoulder. The bass on this one is incredible and plays a prominent role in the music.

Check out the BANDCAMP.

The buzz on Calgary’s Traveler reverberated throughout the international metal community in 2019. Their self-titled debut album quickly caught fire upon its release, with fans mesmerized by the band’s patented blend of old-school riffing, rafter-reaching vocals and dueling lead guitars.

Traveler also proved their worth in the live arena, actively playing dates in their native Canada, the United States and also delivering the goods to rapturous European audiences, in particular, a well-received spot on Germany’s Keep It True festival. Realizing that now was the right time to strike for the ever-important album number two, Traveler has returned in 2020 with Termination Shock

Vinyl Review: "Axiom" by Kilter

I'm sitting here at the Group W bench.

Before we dig too deep into this tale, everybody knows how this goes right?

I walked free and I didn't have to join the draft because I couldn't be rehabilitated after being a litter bug.

So, instead we turned to music.

At this point, it's grown so tiresome being the only one talking to me that I've begun talking to ourselves.

It's time to put our keen and penetrating minds on a band from New York or Paris called Kilter. Kilter might just be the greatest off the wall naming of a band that we've ever heard.

At first's just a shortening of Off Kilter right? Certainly that has to be it, but...

What if it's not?

Hair Today Gone Tomorrow with Pyramids On Mars

Maybe I'm dating myself with this particular column, but really how would it be possible for any self respecting metalhead who loves shredding guitars not be a fan of hair metal if they're being totally honest with themselves?

Well, Pyramids On Mars is going to be honest with us.

Before that though, BANDCAMP!

1. In 1982, we all thought Quiet Riot was metal if you were 7 like I was.

Who was your first Hair Metal band?

I was 7 years old. I sure do remember Quiet Riot when their first album Metal Health came out!

All us boys were into metal only and they brought their LP vinyl albums to school! I would say the very first Hair Metal band I was introduced to was W.A.S.P. Then Quiet Riot.

Pizza Pie Do or Die with The World Without Us

Who else loves pizza out there? You know who loves pizza?

The World Without least I think they do. I haven't read through this yet, but promise I will!

Either way, you should read this and check out the BANDCAMP.

1. Pizza is the world's most perfect food. This is not up for debate.

Please define pizza as based on your geographical location. When I think of local pizza I think of sawdust. I grew up with a local pizza place known as Imperial Pizza; also know for being the cheapest pizza in Delaware County, Pennsylvania, at the time.

They would use cornmeal on the bottom of their pizzas, which both feels like and resembles sawdust, and your hands, shirt, everything would be covered in sawdust after eating a slice.

Meowtal with Fumarole

Recently, I went to Outback Steakhouse and frankly I have to tell you that the service was less than stellar, the Fosters wasn't cold enough.

Not a single person working in the joint seemed to speak with any sort of Aussie accent. They also couldn't even begin to explain to me what precisely Australian steak even WAS!

Don't get me started on listening to American douchebags saying "shrimp on the barbie."

After this horrific time in my life, I felt I needed to reach out and discuss this with a legitimate Australian.

So, we reached out to our friends, Fumarole. (BANDCAMP) If anyone was going to be able to tell me about their cats and how this relates to poncing French philosophers, they would.

1. In my house, we have three cats named Wickett, Louis IX, and Randall "Pink" Floyd. How many do you have and what are they called?

We have a grey and white boy called Smokey Joe who is chill all the time and a wild Orange stripey boy named Crookshanks.
