Hometown Tales With Hollow Leg

Hollow Leg
We've heard it all from Florida's Hollow Leg. We know about what foods they eat, the beer they drink, how awesome their last two releases are, but we really don't know much about where they're from.

As these gents are from Orlando, FL...

There should be loads to hear about.

Let's check in.

1. St. Louis City is my hometown. I've lived here for most of my life in and around the city.

Where are you from?

Winter Garden which is just west of Orlando FL.

2.We have three things that don't really exist anywhere else: the slinger, the gooey butter cake, and toasted ravioli. Tell me about your hometown delicacy.

We are really a mash up of different cultures in Central Florida so our local flavors vary from killer Thai food to awesome Mexican joints and stellar BBQ establishments.

3. In St. Louis, though there have been others. Our biggest hometown team is the St. Louis Cardinals (formerly the St. Louis Perfectos, nee: the St. Louis Browns, not the AL team that moved to Baltimore.) There is nowhere you can go to escape it. I'm a hockey fan, not a baseball fan, so it's a bit weird to me.

Tell me about your hometown's big team.

The Orlando Magic was popular here in the 90's when we had Shaq but more recently our MLS team the Orlando City SC has been growing like crazy selling out games and really building a soccer culture in the area.

You'll find Orlando City merch in the grocery stores now. I do not watch or keep up with sports all that much though.

I enjoy motor racing,mainly Formula 1.

4. St. Louis isn't really known for any one type of music scene. The biggest acts I can think of to get out of here alive were Gravity Kills, Nelly and the St. Lunatics, and Sheryl Crow. There's always been a vibrant concert scene though.

What about where you are?

Locally there is a lot of talent with a pretty healthy scene that comes out to shows and supports each other. Lots of love all around. Death is from the Orlando area so that's pretty bad ass.

We also spawned DJ Magic Mike so if you had a system in your car in the late 80's early 90's you were sure to use his Feel The Bass song to impress your friends and strike fear in your enemies with your low end prowess.

Nationally we are known for boy bands and some radio friendly grunge influenced bands unfortunately.

We also gave you Creed, sorry bout that.

5. 20 years ago, St. Louis had about 300 murders each year, floods, and all sorts of other fun things. You might have heard about us being named the Murder Capital of the USA. Nowadays, a lot here is 150. But there are lots of parts of the city that are returning to former glory. On the whole, St. Louis is a better place to live today than before.

Is there any thing like that where you're from?

We had the Pulse night club shooting which happened just south of downtown Orlando which was absolutely terrible and tragic.

It was weird because the entire city was depressed, you could just feel it in the air and I had never experienced anything like that before.

The silver lining was it really seemed to bring the entire community closer together and made people really appreciate what we have and stand together as a community.

Which I have never really seen growing up in and living in the Central Florida area since most people are not from Florida originally. Now people, no matter where they were from originally, seem to really have pride in living in the Orlando area.

6. Are you still there?

Absolutely
