Pandemic Dispatches with Dyatlove

On May 29th, Dyatlove released their self-titled, debut EP, it comes it about a minute less than 1 Reign In Blood, via BANDCAMP.

1. How are things going where you are? The laws and such.

In Vancouver BC we have done quite well with the pandemic.

We are through phase 2 of reopening and are hoping to be at phase 3 by July.

With phase 2 retail stores are all back open, parks are up and running and restaurants and bars are open to limited capacity.

2. How long have you been sheltering in place at this time?

We had been in lock-down for 2 months before reopening. We have been able to get back into the jam space over this last month and that has been like being able to breathe again!

Being able to get back with the guys has been the light at the end of the tunnel for sure.

3. What has been cancelled on you that you were looking forward to?

We had a really cool EP release show lined up that we had to cancel along with a lot more shows during the remainder of the year.

That totally sucked. We had new merch lined up that got put on hold due to the closing of the border. Not to mention shows I had tickets to see!

One of my favorite all-time bands is Sonic Youth and I was really pumped to see Kim Gordon at the Commodore but unfortunately, that got canceled.

4. how have you been passing the time indoors?

Being an introvert I wasn’t too anxious during the lock-down. I did a lot of writing, played a lot of video-games and watched everything I ever wanted to watch on Netflix.

I know Sam had it a bit tougher. He started running and he got a nice home studio set up to be able to work out new Dyatlove stuff but to also work on his Salmon Friends project.

Rob never stopped working and I know Justin has been writing too.

5. Loads of artists have been talking about how they're being creative. When the lockdown is over are ya gonna be ready to hit up the studio?

We are definitely going to be ready for the studio. We had a 2020 plan to play as many shows as possible. If that meant putting them on ourselves in people basements, that what we were gonna do.

2020 has now changed into the year of writing as I’m sure it has with most bands. We really want to have these new songs out by the end of the year!

6. What crazy projects have you been considering since you've been in quarantine?

Sam has been the crazy quarantine guy, always needing to keep busy. He's been making candles, he made a new desk for his home studio set up… other than it hasn't been too crazy in the Dyatlove camp.

I know the guys have been putting work into their side projects which is amazing. Gotta get all that art out!
