Video: "My Chosen God" by Sorrows Path Featuring Thiago Oliviera

Our good friends from across the pond, Sorrows Path have returned with a new video for all of us to consume.

For being a smaller band, these guys seem to have the hookup on cameo appearances by ex-Mercyful Fate members and today they've got Thiago Oliviera of Warren Dane.

Check it out below for a blistering solo by Oliviera and another great doomed out track from Sorrows Path.

Hometown Tales with Bludy Gyres

Bludy Gyers
It's not too often that Glacially Musical heads down where the weather is warm, but in Hotlanta, GA, there's a band called Bludy Gyres.

It's the latest project from Tommy Stewart.

There's a new split out this December via Black Doomba Records, called Rope Enough For Two.

While you're waiting for that piece of deliciousness, check out Stewart's take on his hometown of Atlanta.

1. St. Louis City is my hometown. I've lived here for most of my life in and around the city. Where are you from?

I am from Atlanta, Georgia and am a southerner in every way, including the heavy accent.

Video: "Transylvanian Hunger" by Corpse Paint and Dayglo

Interesting story, I thought Corpse Paint and Dayglo were two different bands when in fact they're only one band.

It makes me wonder though, which one is Corpse Paint?

In the real world, Corpse Paint and Dayglo are releasing an interesting split with Chicago area death metallers, Death On Fire. You can preorder that stuff on BANDCAMP and of course ask them all sorts of questions on FACEBOOK.

Right now, you can check out their brand new video, Transylvanian Hunger and really get a good idea what sorts of flavors CPAD are hawking.

LP Review: "Ah Puch" by Dirge

Ah Puch
There is something very special about Doom Metal to me. It's the one type of metal that reaches out to touch the ancients. So, Doom always gets a look from me.

Pune, India's Dirge is preparing to unleash their concept album about ancient Mayan mythology onto the rest of the world. Thanks to the magic of the internet, this indie record can be in your ears too.

A doom metal concept record from a country without a vaunted metal scene. This ticks all of my boxes personally, but none of that matters without the strength of the music to back it up.

This is a slow tempo, Godzilla stomp of a doom metal record. The thick sludge has just the right amount of filth to it. One can almost feel the sweltering jungles of the Yucatan.

Ah Puch has just enough musical diversity mixed in with droning doom to keep the long songs and album flowing on an even keel. The vocals are pained and impassioned. The guitars are riffy. The rhythm section holds the flow to a steady drip drip pace.

Ah Puch has put Dirge on my radar.

Video: "Samsara (L.C.E.)" by Sacral Rage

It's certainly been a minute since Greek metallers, Sacral Rage, dropped anything on us. Check out their newest lyric video.

They've got a new record coming out on Cruz Del Sur this October. You can preorder it via digital or CD at BANCAMP, or you can preorder the VINYL here.

Hometown Tales with Anisoptera

Anisoptera
Let's check back in with the Bay Area Metal Post Horde, Anisoptera.

Robby Perry is from the city of Oakland, made famous-er by the flick, Sorry To Bother You. OK, he's not precisely from there, but from San Lorenzo.

Before you get too comfy, jump over to Bandcamp and check out their latest album.

Now that we have an idea of where he's from, let's have him tell us all about it.

Here we go.

1. St. Louis City is my hometown. I've lived here for most of my life in and around the city. Where are you from?

San Lorenzo is where I grew up, it's literally right smack in the middle of the Bay Area, between San Jose and Oakland, in California.

Video: "Tunnel Vision" by Four Star Riot

It's time to look back in on Clearwater, Florida's Four Star Riot.

We checked out a live video of theirs last year. This track is taken off of their latest LP, Daylight. This particular track is inspired by the Socio-Political divide that we are all are staring at.

It's got a cool vibe and a nice guitar solo there in the middle.

Make sure you check them out on FACEBOOK.

Foods We Love with Striker

In case you haven't noticed, the Foods We Love column has made a bit of a comeback.

While I was putting my daughter's hockey gear on, it finally occurred to me, there's a country above us called Canada.

Despite many years of open warfare, subtle warfare, and us planning to take out the curling team, either via curling or sniper, Canada maintains they're a totally different country and  not the 51st State in the USA...

All that said, today we're looking into a Juno Nominated Artist, Edmonton's Striker. They're a noodly doodly metal band out of the northern most (populated) city in the great province of Alberta.

Think of it as Canadian Texas, but really, really cold.

So, how's the food you ask?

Vinyl Review: "Well Kept Things" by Foxhole

Well Kept Things
A life well lived, if you ask me, is full of twists and turns. The lady who became my wife told me that she never wanted to be bored.

Also, apparently, blasting King Diamond at full volume is in fact boring based on her reactions.

Upon originally hearing that, it seemed that it was merely a compliment to myself. When my mood is good and my demons are at bay, it can be hard to determine what I'm going to do next.

Looking deeper though, it never really occurred to me that my life was terribly boring. When  you go back that decade and check out the mix CDs that lived in my car....you'd see that they have pretty much the same songs that are on the mix tape that was recently unearthed in our home.

It never really occurred to me that my life had become more than routine, more than scripted, more than predictable. It had become desperately dull.

EP Review: "Inability to Cope" by Misanthropic Aggression

Inability to Cope EP
Let's get right down two it shall we?

Today's subject is a slightly confused, but very metal trio based out of Atlanta, GA. Boris Records was good enough to bring them and record the debut EP.

Between these three gentlemen, they play about 5 instruments. Interestingly enough, they switch off who plays bass, It makes me wonder if there's a heads or tails scenario or perhaps a not it protocol.

Because you gotta lay down the bass or you might as well not lay down the law.

Inability To Cope is a eight track, 20 minute hello to the world. In those six tracks, Misanthropic Aggression switches between death metal, grindcore, and early groove metal. This is a lot of ground to cover in a very short time.

It's been a goodly long while since a brand new band has been able to catch me so unawares with their ability. It's oddly reminiscent of Noisem, but I find Misanthropic Aggression more a more enjoyable experience.

It's time to chew on my nails in anticipation of a true debut, perhaps on vinyl, as this toothsome appetizer hasn't satisfied my urge, but amplified it.

Road Warriors with Jezebel Slade

Jezebel Slade
In the before time, there was a band called Van Halst from somewheresville, Canada. They put out a pretty bad ass record called World of Make Believe.

Now, this is where we define the before time and the now time.

While working on their next project called Jezebel Slade, they have come to the conclusion that it's time to change their name and move forward as Jezebel Slade.

I, as the owner of a pretty terribly named website, wish them luck and courage in making this change from A to B.

In the meantime, let's find out what they're like when they're living out the van.

LP Review: "Human Annihilation" by Ruin

Human Annihilation
When the right music hits me at the right time, it's one of the best feelings in the world.

Right now, your friend and humble narrator is dealing with a chest cold that's been spreading about my body in slow motion. It started two weeks ago with a pain in my throat.

Then slowly, it spread to my chest, and now it's in all places in my body. It's been absolute misery, but it has gotten me out of a bit of housework. So there is a small upside, though my house is a bit messy....

Ruin's latest LP, Human Annihilation, feels like that chest cold. It's a brutally obscene slab of death metal, but it's unlike most forms of the genre, because the music is slow. Well, it's slow for extreme metal anyway.

The vocals sound like coagulating blood. The mixture of the vocals and the rest of the band is one of the most exquisite pieces of ugliness to hit my ears in some time.

Ruin is so brutal, they're making me wonder if their album even counts as proper music, but that's why it's amazing. It's something new and evil.

XLP Review: "Sinister" by Cultes Des Ghoules

Sinister
It's easy to hold a band's previous success against them because it's hard to look at something in a vacuum.

Take the Polish Avant Garde Black Metal group, Cultes Des Ghoules. Last year, they dropped, probably the best black metal concept record based on a play. Seriously, that's one of the best albums of 2017 period.

Now, that record checked off all of my boxes, which is makes Sinister so difficult for me, as it's certainly not a Coven Part Deux.

It's pretty far away from that album in fact. It would be unrealistic to expect a sequel, but what do we have on their fourth release?

Like I inferred from the cover, Sinister feels like an extended black magic ceremony. First the circle is drawn. Then the incantation is given. Then the demon begins to push through the barrier that separates the ethereal planes from our world.

After the muck freely flows onto the floor and the desolate one has been restored to the physical realms, you can't un-ring the bell.

Cultes Des Ghoules has maintained a similar sound and its greasy swagger sounds ever so delicious intertwining in this dirty magic.

5 Minute Origin Stories with Brooks Thomas

Brooks Thomas
On 9/21/18, Brooks Thomas, taken from the surnames of the founders, Colleen and Danny, will be releasing Poison into the world.

They were classmates, then lovers, and now bandmates. One has to wonder what that might be like.

They hail from a dirty part of New York City that's survived the clean up. As for now, let's find out all about them. If you like what you hear, ask them about it on FACEBOOK.

You can get Poison HERE.

1. Is there an event you can point to you that made you say, wow, that's the instrument I want to play? Not like guitar or drums, but the reason why you play the model you do?

Colleen:
This is a difficult question because i think my main instrument is my voice, so there's really only one of those. For me, singing comes almost as naturally as breathing. My dad would play guitar and sing when I was a child and since then I've known that I want to express myself through music and song.
