Album Review: "Demon Blues" by Datura4

Demon Blues
Let's talk debut records.

Today we're talking about a band from Australia. Frankly, it's been a long time since we've talked about anyone from that side of the earth.

Too long.

We're looking a group of players who've been around the block a bit in other bands....The Stems, You Am I, etc. Honestly, I wasn't familiar with any of those acts.

They were described as fuzzy, lo-fi, garage rock, etc. You know the stuff that real rock'n'roll is made of.

Nowadays, these fellows have created a new band that focuses on lo-fi rock and psychedelic blues, as I think evidenced by the title of the album. It's also worth mentioning that we're looking at another title from Alive-Natural Sound....such a great label.

Datura4
Datura4 clearly loves to boogie.

This album is full of it. Upon first hearing it, Demon Blues feels like a rock record.

Killer vintage rock.

It's rock like the Yardbirds or Left Lane Cruiser are rock bands.

There's more than a touch here and there of psychedelia. There's more than a swiping of blues.

The guitars are a snarling beast. Bluesy and the solos remind me a bit of Ace Frehley...that's always an awesome thing.

The album is never stagnant and is always moving on into strange new places from your standard three chord rock, to jangley ballads, no-frills rawk, but without ever losing the power of the blues behind it.

This album is a keeper from beginning to the seven minute blues jam to cap it off.
