EP Review: "Kathmandu" by Goya

Kathmandu
Precisely what do you have to say?

In my day job, that's the biggest part of what we do. We have to listen to what is said, or more precisely we have to hear what it is not said.

There are several different methods of communication. Non-verbal communication is quite a big one.

Think about yourself... imagine you've been dropped off in a Western nation, we're presuming most readers of this blog are westerners, but it's one where they don't speak your mother tongue.

What would you do? Could you order the cold frosty beer you've been hankering for? Would the locals look upon you while having absolutely no idea what you're saying?

Goya
Just think about all the things you've been trying to say today. Would it be impossible for you pass along your message if you used only sounds and not words?

Well, Goya, is the next in the long line of progressive rockers that are trying to answer the age old question....

Can we tell our stories without speaking a word?

We're on the precipice of their latest release, Kathmandu, which they are independently publishing.

The album, well, let's say disc, clocks in at about 1.154 Reign In Bloods which makes it an LP by my count, but an EP by theirs.

Either way, what's contained therein is about a half hour's worth prog rock that never feels pretentious but only ambitious. There's never any attempts to meld flamenco guitars with neo-classical folk metal.

The songs simply flow. Imagine a slightly more well read Karma To Burn and you're headed in the right direction. Instead of the almighty riff, this is more focused on the vibe and the feel.

Be sure to hear what they have to say, as they simply leave nothing left said.
