LP Review: "Cosmic Progression: An Agonizing Journey Through Oddities of Space" by Deconstructing Sequence

Cosmic Progression: An Agonizing Journey Through Oddities of Space
To be perfectly honest, this particular review was a little hard to get started.

Well, perhaps by now, you've picked on the style of my reviews?

An album transports me somewhere in my personal history, a Sam Beckett styled Quantum Leap, if you will.

Then nerdy references are made, and we move forward from there.

So, this album, takes me back to this article I read (seriously a legitimate article without pictures) about pornography. Now, we're assuming no one reading this has any experience, so there were two folks interviewed, neither of which were performers....

Deconstructing Sequence
One talked about how great the sex parts were and one spoke about how the sex parts were the commercials that cut into the amazing movies.

I was confused to.... but for the moment, let's move forward to the album itself..

Here we have this progressive metal record with an abnormally long title...and it's highly unlikely I'm going to be able to recite it even 5 minutes after I finish typing this due to its sheer length...but moving on...

Deconstructing Sequence is a bit different from what we've come to expect from prog metal because this album doesn't feel musically thematic to me.

It's certainly not progressive in the style of Pink Floyd or Metallica/Iron Maiden styled.

It feel like those prog albums from back in the day where the goal was to take this flamenco part and somehow make it flow into this fusion jazz part into the Hammond Organ part.

The one thing these songs continually come back to is the strange thumpa thumpa of modern metal that overpowers everything else in the song. Personally, I'm not a giant fan of that style, but then it goes away and we're back to the amazing prog metal.

Cosmic Progression: An Agonizing Journey Through Oddities of Space is a very ambitious record. I'm thankful that even though they may be punching above their weight class, Deconstructing Sequence scored a third round TKO.
